Good things from Lyme

Hi, I am feeling uncharacteristically optimistic today. Does anybody have anything good to say about Lyme disease?

This is very weird, but my hair has always been very straight with minimal oddly placed waves. Since I have been treating lyme, my hair as turned curly. Not super curly, but a very nice curl. I can't believe it. It is very strange.

Also, I am very thankful and grateful to be part of this community. I have learned so much from all of you.

I'm happy I found this forum and can share what I'm going through with a bunch of great people.

Lyme kind of forced me to move and spend more time with my family and best friend. It was something I probably would not have done on my own. Maybe it was meant to be. It's funny how Lyme completely takes you out of heading one direction and puts you on a completely different path.

My straight hair has developed somewhat of a curl too! It's not curly, but more natural waves here and there! So weird that you had that happen too Dancingbear.

My son, who is 3, and I both have Lyme. On one hand, it is so hard watching him struggle, but on the other hand, I can also see it helping to develop his character. He is learning to deal with his feelings when he has an emotional herx. For instance, he knows now that if someone makes him angry, he should remove himself from the situation rather than hitting them. Sometimes he still hits, but he's learning, nonetheless. He knows that he has to take special medicines and that he can't eat all of the same foods as his friends, and for the most part, he is okay with that. So he's learning that it's okay to be different. It breaks my heart to see him struggle, but I know that he will be a better person because of it. As for me, I've learned a lot, too, especially about my values and priorities. I've become more grateful for the things I *do* have. As I was exercising yesterday, I prayed silently, thanking God just for the ability to do those exercises, knowing there are many others who don't have that privilege.

I feel like I've been rambling, but the thing I really wanted to stress was that we really can become better versions of ourselves through our struggles.

def changed the way i look at chronic illness and how other people are in life, theres alot people worse off than me even though i have lyme and ebv theres people out there with deadly cancer, straving in the streets, countries with no water, makes me appreciate what i do have going for me alot more

Great question Dancingbear! Lyme has helped me wake up!! Before Lyme and illness I didn't pay attention to my body or have the first clue about food. When we all got sick (my husband, son and I), I had to change everything - the food we ate, how we cooked and stored food, cleaning products, beauty products, everything. We still have a long way to go in terms of recovery but we are living a much healthier lifestyle. My son will now grow up with this knowledge that I never had about how to take care of and nourish his body. I thank Lyme for that swift kick in the a&@. But now I'm ready for it to go away. :)

I'm sure having Lyme changed my life in many, many ways - but healing from it has changed my life even more. I have learned much right here on this forum!! And some of it wasn't even intentional!!

So keep on putting one foot in front of the other, everyone!! You can do this!!

And as Silly Sheep said, I've got to meet and to get to know most of you here!! And that's been some of what's best about the whole thing!!
