What kills Lyme more effectively- flagyl or tindamax?

Just wondering what the difference is. Which one is harder on the body? Isn't flagyl supposed to be absolutely horrible for us?

Both of them are cyst busters...my LLND prefers tindamax. He didn't say why.

I don't think either are good for us.

I think Flagyl was used in a study on mice....and it caused bladder cancer.

But, how much flagyl were the mice getting...probably a lot!!

Unless I'm wrong, Flagyl is harder on the body and also better at killing Lyme. Tindamax is probably a little milder, and usually used as an adjunct.

I had to take Flagyl for C. Diff., and I became psychotic on it. I didn't realize it was a herx though; I thought it was an allergic reaction! At the time, I didn't know as much about Lyme. I didn't react as strongly to the Tindamax.

Here is an article by Dr. Eva Sapi,
Evaluation of in-vitro antibiotic susceptibility of different morphological forms of Borrelia burgdorferi
She is a dedicated Lyme researcher on biofilms who is also a Lyme patient and this is her passion. It seems that she prefers Tindamax overall. There is also an interview from her at a Lyme conference, several interviews on Youtube.
I have not taken either but it seems Tindamax is easier to take.

My LLND prefers tinidazole (Tindamax) because she feels it is more gentle than Flagyl. She also prefers it because of Dr. Sapi's research on its effectiveness when evaluated against many traditionally used antibiotics for Lyme Disease.

My LLND prefers Tindamax - he says it's more effective....but - there are different opinions on that.

I felt like I was on fire and extremely nauseous on flagyl. Yuck.

Not that I'm going to be taking abx again anytime soon I think it's a good information to have

Tinidazole is the more effective pick. And it also has less side effects than flagyl and is easier to tolerate. But Flagyl is more readily available

Yes, I agree. And I think it helped me a little with the C. Diff.

How do we get c.diff? Is that only if you have that in your intestines? Or do we Ll have c.diff? I had no issue with it so maybe I don't hAve any of them in me?

LP - I believe C.difficile bacteria is in our everyday environment. But, when we take antibiotics, it kills our good bacteria in our gut...then if we are exposed to c. difficile, it goes unchecked - as we lack the bacteria that would normally keep it in check.



I see that I posted twice about my LLND's preference - flagyl or tindamax....having a lyme-brain day today, I guess.

I'm taking tindamax and I'm having a lot of die off. I'm finding that when I'm not sick my brain is clearer.

What is nice about flagyl and tinidazole (can nice and flagyl be used in the same sentence??) is that they both are used to treat mild to moderate c. difficule infections. The reason I like this aspect to these medications is that when I take them along with the other antibiotics I am on - I have a little extra insurance that I am preventing a c. difficule infection taking over. I know nothing is 100% but knowing these meds treat this c. diff as well as lyme makes me feel better about taking them along with the rest of the antibiotics I take.

I don't know if anyone previously in this thread will see my question???
I began treatment last June-2014 on herbal ABX ONLY for the bacteria and NAC supplement w/hopes to kill the chlamydophilia pneumoniae. My ND doesn't prescribe synthetic antibiotics(is that the right term, synthetics?)

Anyhoo, I don't see any improvement; in fact arthritis in knuckles and knees are worse! My muscle pain,joint pain, depression/cry a lot, brain fog, poor concentration, confusion, trouble w/speech, sporadic sleep, heart Palps, stomach pain episodes, etc etc etc have all stayed about the same-as they relapse-remission-relapse-remission. It seems this shall go on until the day I die-especially on those days where my heart is pounding w/chest pain!!!

Oh my question-right....So am I wasting time & efforts taking this the all natural route? I mean, Im NOT opposed to man-made antibiotics if they work. It's just that my MD doesn't even believe I have Lyme, and my ND says she's a Lyme specialist....how long on herbal ABX until I try the others?

Sweetpeaisme - So you're only treating the C. pneumonia? Have you tested positive for Lyme or other tick-borne infections?

If so, you will continue to have symptoms of those things until they are treated as well.

Also, are you detoxing? It amazes me how many doctors - even natural/herbal docs - don't understand the importance of detoxing with these infections particularly. If you aren't detoxing, please start. We have a great list of suggestions in the "New to Lyme? Start Here!" thread that sits at the top of the forum.

With the right protocol, yes, herbs/natural meds are just as powerful as pharma or synthetic abx. I healed from a 40 yr old set of infections (Lyme, Bart, Babs, RMSF and others) very well. I was reinfected last summer and offered IV abx, but I chose to stick with what worked last time - and I'm not healed from that infection as well.

BUT - if your ND doesn't really know how to treat these infections, you will have to either take control of your treatment or find a ND that has experience and has healed those with these infections - otherwise you could be floundering around for a long time.

I am clueless. I thought Flagyl was just the brand name for tinidazole.

Kayaklove - Flagyl is metronidazole and tindamax is tinidazole. Both are cyst busters and used for similar purpose. Most people seem to find tinidazole the easier to tolerate - but I seem to the exception to that!

Note tindamax is primarily used in the world to treat protozoans which is what Babesia is so it's not only good as a Lyme cyst buster but also for treating Babesia.
