Panick! My cousin just told me she picked a tick of her 11 year olds arm, they love in MN and walked through tall grass to a nature center.
Not sure how long it was on there, when she pulled it broke and then when she got the mouth said it had a long thing in it, some pus kinda ingrown hair, she kept the tick! She is making him do garlic shots.
I told her to call the health dept to see if they will test. Also get him to a clinic to start antibiotics.

What does she do?

I also told her to treat this like she is fighting for her sons life!

If no symptoms, no rash, 28 days of antibiotics. She needs to act right away.

See if she can get that amount -maybe go to two or three different Dr.'s to get the 4 weeks worth.

I don't know how the medical system works in the U.S. - if your cousin goes to a couple different Dr.'s for abx.....is the information all linked? Will the other Dr. see that?

What about a walk-in clinic?

Strongly suggest she send the tick to Igenex or Clonmex lab. Costs about $75 to test for Lyme but the tick test is very accurate and it could bring piece of mind. I'm told that Clonmex is a little faster and cheaper than Igenex.

Ok I just had home health at my home and was out of pocket for awhile, she took him to the dr, think a walk-in because they don't have a pediatrician due to recent move.
Dr kept the tick and said they will identify the tick, thinks it's a wood tick and she said wood ticks don't carry lyme, so they are just going to watch it. Ugh!

You may not be able to get antibiotics easily, but you certainly can get Astragalus - from a health food store.

I think you should do something right away -whether it's abx, or astragalus...or both.

I don't know if I would trust that they correctly identified the tick as a wood-tick, firstly, and secondly do we know that wood ticks don't carry lyme?

If she can't get anyone to start him on abx, then push her to go to the natural route - she can email me if it would help.

I hope she understands the dangers here. Growing up with these infections should never be an option - it robs you of sooo much!!

Wood ticks can carry rocky mtn spotted fever. And all insects are suspect. I would say 4wks minimum abx (I would even opt for 6).
