Very impressed with Dr c. Back home now and on day 2 of my Abx. I take 100mg twice a day of minocycline and 250 mg once a day of azithrmyocine. Lots of probiotics and I am still looking for a product called bioK. Wonder if anyone on the forum has heard of this?
Dr c said I may experience diarrhea, but have not yet. Not sure when to expect a reaction to the Abx ie herx. Anyone with experience on these two meds, I would love to hear your comments and or advice. I have follow up phone consult August. 20.
Loved Steveston, BC. We did not go out in the rental car once, just walked the whole days away in Steveston (and shopped and shopped and ate and ate). And yes we did get to go whale watching. Awesome,,,,,,,,,,

This is not the input you're looking for but I had to say that I LOVE a good MD who prescribes probiotics w/ abx! WIN!

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but in Canada (I'm on the east coast), we have a probiotic product available in most large supermarkets (in the specialty milk / natural food area) called "BioK." I'm thinking this may be what he's referring to if Dr. C is in Canada. They're tiny containers - you "drink" one each day (or more or less). http://www.biokplus.com/en_ca/products/original

Yay, Quilty - I was watching, waiting for you to post. I'm so happy it was a positive experience. I know, Steveston is a great little place, isn't it.

First of all, if you haven't already, don't take the zithro right away...wait a few days until you know how you are reacting with the mino.
Dr. C. does not say to do that...but you don't want a herx that is unmanageable.

Re: diarrhea - is he saying it will be temporary until you get used to the antibiotics?

We do have BioK here in Canada - I buy it at our local health food store. It's in the refrigerator section...little plastic containers.

Also want to mention - the detox part of treatment. Dr. C. doesn't talk a lot about it (at least he hasn't with me, anyway)...but make sure you are doing several things - you don't want to start AFTER you herx...you want to try and stay ahead of it, if you can.

Thanks lyme mother. Have looked but still unable to find. I am just north of Toronto. None of my local health stores carry it. Will try the larger grocery stores tomorrow.
Hey girlie thanks so much for getting back to me in Steveston. I already started the Azithromycin. Will complete the 5 days and then hold off to see how it goes with the minocycline. Diahhrea he did mention and to double up on probiotics if necessary. So far no prob.
How long before I expect to Get some kind of reaction to Abx ? Guess I just want to get better so bad, I want to feel bad (herx). Lol. I just want to get better.... I know this is a long road and keep telling myself ...... Patience.
I really do appreciate the support of this forum. You are all an amazing group of people. Wish I had the knowledge to input more, and help others, but guess that too will come with time.

When I was put on my first antibiotic, I herxed on Day 4. That happened again on another antibiotic.

Recently I started Minocycline (A week ago Thursday) and on Wednesday I felt like I was herxing (but not too badly) and then yesterday I felt really awful all day and evening. So that time the herx started on Day 8.

There isn't really a time-frame...so it's difficult to say when you will herx.

You said when you finish up the 5 zithro - you will stop - and wait to see how mino goes. Are you pulsing the zithro? 5 on and 2 off?

Quilty, so glad you saw Dr C and had a good experience. BioK is available at Superstore here. It's in the specialty section. Best wishes and please keep us updated.
