colonoscopy in 3 weeks

Has anyone had a colonoscopy while being sick with these diseases?  Did your symptoms rev up from the use of propofol?

I keep changing my appointment for mine.
My mother died from colon cancer at age 55...and before lyme, I put off having the colonoscopy done...I was told i should have my first one at 45 years old, and every 5 years after.

well, 45 came and went...and I didn't have it done.

Then I got lyme...and because I'm so freakin' worried about my health now...that I realize it was stupid/foolish for me not to have it done...so I saw the specialist almost a year ago...and I keep changing the appointment for the procedure.

I can't lay on my left side...which is how they usually do it...but I was told i can lay on my right side instead...but I just don't want anything to aggravate how I feel...or any complications...I have enough on my plate...
I don't have symptoms...it's just the increased risk with my mom dying of cancer at such a young age.

I already had surgery after lyme symptoms...when I hadn't been diagnosed...and one area of my scar didn't heal.... I know this isn't an operation...but I just don't need anything else to be fretting about...which I know i would be. I hate hospitals.

I also know a lot of the staff at our hospital...I worked for the Provincial health authority, in the scheduling department...so I know a lot of the nurses, and other staff... so that is kind of awkward, too.

For now, I think it's too much stress for me to undertake...even though I should have it done.

I had a routine colonoscopy since starting treatment. No issues. They don't really put you under during the procedure. Typically they give you only a mild sedative.

I also had severed tendons in two fingers re-attached, a hernia repaired, and a kidney stone blasted away, all with general anesthesia. The two fingers didn't fully heal as expected. The kidney stone procedure may have caused my Babs/Bart to flare back and had to re-start ABX two months later.

I had one a few months ago...I did have a slight fever afterwards, but no complications besides it aggravating my GI issues...but I have crohn's (supposedly) so it's probably a little different in my case.

I freaked out about this colonoscopy literally for years and it was just fine.
As with most things the stress was more traumatic than the procedure!

Good luck - and remember to amp up your probiotics after - those laxatives will knock out everything!

Girlie, please don't put it off. If you wait until you have symptoms, it's too late.

My husband's uncle died from colon cancer and his kids were in their mid 20s. That is way too young. Treatment may have changed since then, but colon cancer is still a bad one to have.

The test it self is no problem. They completely put you out. I went in because I was having bad acid reflex. I tested negative for H. polyeri (wrong spelling) and my pcp send me to the specialist. I was 40+ so he recommended that I do both the endoscopy and the colonoscopy at the same time.

The bad part of the colonoscopy is the prep. You literally have to empty you colon completely. The stuff you have to drink completely sucks. I had to force it down, but it is easier than colon cancer.

Since they put you out, you don't feel anything. My colonoscopy result were normal and he said that I would not need another for 10-15 years. It is well worth knowing there isn't a problem.

It's actually worse to have a mammogram. With a mammogram you have pain and end up being contorted into positions my body completely dislikes.

Everyone needs to get a colonoscopy as soon as insurance will pay which is usually 40 to 45.

Don't wait. Do it and get it done. The alternative is definitely worse.

Thank you so much for your inputs.  I am having big time issues with my stools.  about a year ago I had a lot of mucus and blood along with diarrhea and was given Flagyl which stopped it almost immediately.  This time is a little different.  I haven't been on antibiotics for about 1 month but am taking A-Bab right now.  I am having less mucus and blood but it is still there, especially in the mornings.  I am a bit worried but one step at a time.  My Mom, too, passed away from colon cancer at the age of 56 and it tends to run in the family.  I had this procedure 11 years ago (way to long) but I procrastinated due to being sick for 7 years.  Anybody else with these symptoms?  It is so comforting to see all your feedbacks.

Because I have such terrible issues with my intestines, I'll not answer this, but I did want to wish you luck with this, Patty!!

I had both colonoscopy & endoscopy(with Lyme)@ same appt; they don't put you 'to sleep', only a 'twilight sleep'-which is sedation. I didn't have any issues...

However, I was fully anesthetized for gall bladder surgery and the night of, after being sent home only 40 mins upon awaking, went to E.R. that night for chest pain, fast heartbeat, & shoulder pain. E.R. said it was metabolic syndrome= basically my electrolytes dropped too low.

The interesting thing about the gall bladder surgery is, it was done 2 yrs before diagnosis, but I was most def. Sick then...the doc decided to give me I.V. of antibiotics because of my heart murmur. Could it be that the antibacs caused a next? I think so!!!
