Hi, MsHippo. I think trying antimicrobials before antibiotics could be a could route, because it is milder and also - you can always take her off of them if you see no improvements. If she can, exercise is a good thing for improving mitochondrial content and quality. In other words, her coniditioning her muscles can help her cells get adequate nutrition. I don't see much point in pumping a bunch of drugs and healthy foods into someone who is de-conditioned and has a sluggish system to uptake nutrients.
She is young, so she is still strong. I think it is important for kids to feel like they can do some normal kid stuff. I agree that vaccines can make things worse. For those of us with autoimmune conditions, a vaccine or foreign substance in the body can really make our immunitys freak out while "attacking" the invader. A good alternative to vaccination is IV ozone therapy. IV with UVBI is great, too. In this, blood is removed, pumped with ozone and then put back into the blood stream. Among other theories, it is supposed to change the molecular structure of basically any infection or virus in that persons blood, creating a slightly different immune response (our bodies get used to the invaders in our bodies after a while). It is like a personal vaccine against yourself, minus the ill effects of having a foreign substance put in the body. UVBI can be done in conjunction, and this is simply where the blood goes through a UV light before re-entering the body. It is kind of like mild radiation to kill substances, although a doctor may have a different description.
I think the best think you can do is educate yourself, keep an open but doubtful mind. You will read A LOT of opinions on here and in books you read. Keep in mind, however, that we all have our own ideas of what works. Even scientists have biases going into experiments. Stay open to educating yourself and not getting to caught up in one "miracle" cure. I have had Lyme for 6 years (at least) and have been in remission for 2. I'm young, I feel healthy and strong now, but I am not fooling myself. I am going to keep de-stressing, and doing things to keep my immunity, liver, mind, muscles, etc in tip top shape. I don't think I would have gotten so sick if my genetics and constitution were what they are.
