My appt. w/ ID doc= disaster

Well I just had my appt. w/ an ID doc who supposedly was a great Lyme doctor and what a complete waste of time. This is what I was told at the appt:

-I don't have Lyme
-I might have MS
-Have I considered seeing a psychologist?
-Since I'm not CDC positive I don't have Lyme
-Even if I was sick from some kind of bacterial component the month of Doxy should have taken care of it.
-Mycoplasma P. antibodies do not mean anything
-Everyone has positive EBV test results
-There's no such thing as chronic Lyme
-My symptoms do not present as classic Lyme disease
-My Immunoscience test is not reliable since it is not FDA approved
-Feeling better on the herbs is probably a placebo effect

I should have known better and not wasted my time in the first place.

Back to fighting this thing on my own. SO FRUSTRATED.

Are you going to find a LLMD to treat you?

This ID Dr. wasn't an ILADS member was he? Or, did you go to him because the appt. would be covered with your insurance?

I don't know of any other LLMD's in TX. I'm running out of options.

Right now I am self-treating w/ some Cowden and Buhner herbs. Overall I'm doing better but it would be great to have a knowledgeable doctor who I could consult w/ and run tests for me if needed.

So I take it he did not offer any continued treatment for you (other than insulting you!)?

Sniogra, have I shared my list of LLMD's with you? If so, then continue to treat on your own! Or find a naturopathic doc or herbalist that can help you out a bit. If they are Lyme friendly, that's all that's really needed to help you get through this - but remember, many have treated themselves without a doctor and have healed. Don't get discouraged too much!!

Sorry this happened to you :( these ID. Drs are utterly useless. I only saw one and I had hope that it would be a positive outcome. I marched in there with my Igenex results and was completely dismissed because "we don't accept test results from third party labs" is what I was told. What was his solution to my problem? Eat well, exercise, focus on mental and physical health improvement and things will resolve. Whatever!

I sought the advice of relative who is a Dr and he gave me the contact info for an ID Dr who is 1.5 hr drive from me. Apparently this doc was practicing in a Lyme endemic part of the US and now lives in Canada. She specializes in Lyme. I never ended up going to see her, why bother when I already knew that Drs in Canada don't treat with long term abx. Plus I didn't want to bother making the trek, only to be told the same thing as the other dr.

happyjo- he told me the ONLY way he would treat me is if I came back w/ a CDC positive test...then he would consider IV rocephin.

Thanks all for the encouraging words. I wish I could find a great herbalist who was knowledgeable about Lyme. I'll continue to research and see if I can find anyone. I'm reading Buhner's books as we speak.

So sorry to hear about such a pathetic appointment, Sniogra!!!

You know, Buhner recently posted the following on his Facebook page:

"I no longer see clients for herbal consultations. I recommend the following

I know Julia McIntyre does phone/Skype consults (and I somehow learned that she has over 100 unread emails from potential clients).

Still, I would imagine the other herbalists offer similar types of service. It's worth a shot, IMHO.

When you are part of the system, the system "is great," and the ID docs are "great lyme docs," yada yada yada. They don't know how stupid they are!! Early on, my BIL (who's a nurse) kept trying to get me to go to the hospital's top ID doc because he is a "great lyme doc, and knows how to treat lyme disease." REALLY???!!! shocked shakehead eyes sad skull
