Hello all - when finding a tick on the body does it mean anything if when the tick was removed it was not engorged??

All kidding aside....An unengorged tick is just that - an unengorged tick.

I suspect you asked because you were wondering if a person wouldn't have to worry about infection from an unengorged tick.

There's no way of knowing whether or not a tick infects us. Infection can happen within seconds. Latest research is showing that the ticks that infect us are often already somewhat fed....more gifts with the bite - yuck.

I pulled a nymph deer tick out of my abdomen. It wasn't engorged and I had no symptoms until after I started prophylactic treatment.

Yes that's why I asked and considering the person the tick was found on is 3 yrs old I was some how hoping it meant no lyme though my instinct tells me different. I know there is no way to really know other than just get treated asap if you can find a doctor to treat you long enough much less treat a child with abx long enough which most peds dc who are not lyme literate will not treat past 2 weeks pretty much.

A tick bite with no rash or other symptoms will need 28 days of antibiotics.

It's best to treat before symptoms arise.

Maybe show the treating Dr. The guidelines (Burrascano)...and beg.

if you pulled the tick off without breaking the pinchers you can send it to a lab for testing for diseases. igenex has a service for doing this. i did this with my daughter who had one attached to her for almost a day when she was 5. it was undetermined if the tick was infected but it was worth a shot!
