Ok, so I have been treating my Lyme for almost 5 years with LLMD. I was on antibiotics the first year and a half.I have Been seeing a holistic dr. also and been treating with supplements and I feel about
80 to 85% well and have for past few years except for maybe once a year flareup.
I did lots of steps and overdid it at work one week and got tendonitis in both knees bad. When I went to my LLMD he thought it was Lyme and put me back on Doxycline 2 in morning and at night, Azithromycin 1 a day from Mon-Thursday and Friday Saturday and Sunday Tindamax 1 day.
After the first week of Antibiotics my knees became worse (burning, pulling on fire). I had to stay out of work for 3 days. The pain was different than when i first got LYme it was stabbing pain. My orthopaedic Dr. wasn't sure and I am having a MRI on left knee Thursday. It makes me sooo crazy as I am not sure if it is tendonitis or a lyme herx . But it started before ABX and became worse after. But didn't really rest. Now i rested 4 days, still on antibiotics and epston salt baths and its feels so much better? LLMD told me to stop antibiotics...its been only 2 weeks.
ANY IMPUT WITH HELP!!!

Hey seyshell, we've talked a lot about
tendonitis caused by Lyme here. It sounds to me that your knee pain was a herx, because it started right after you restarted antibiotics.

I was thinking the same as Sarah...the timing - sounds like a herx.
It sounds to me like whatever you're doing with the holistic Dr. isn't enough. What are you taking to treat the infection?

Mixing eucalyptus, lavender, chamomile and frankincense essential oils in a carrier oil (like jojoba or almond oil) and applying that to the affected area helps. So do isometric exercises.
For knees, hold you leg out straight on the ground, contract your thigh muscles, hold for 5 seconds and release.
There are a few antibiotics, like levaquin, that have tendon issues as a side effect. I don't know much else, since I'm just using herbs.

So I been feeling good in general except like I said a flare up once a year.Girlie I had tendonitis before I started ABX and then it got worse. Hard to tell if its mechanical or lyme but was both knees.
I take NEEM supplements, monolaurin, 3000 mg of vitamin C, 3000 Flax oil capsules, curcumin, 2 probiotics, diflucan every other day and nystatin on the other day. Epstson salt baths and I have an ifrared sauna.

seyshell - if the antibiotics did cause a herx...that means it's a die-off of bacteria...which means active infection.
Are the plans to go back on the antibiotics? maybe starting at a lower dose?
Or, add in some herbal treatments.

I would really like to stay off antibiotics...My recent igenix showed IND which is low amounts lyme detected and two other with one start and two. So I still have traces of it!!

Igenex doesn't really show the "amount" of Lyme you have. There is no way to tell whether the bacteria is "traces" or a high bacteria load. It just shows whether you have it or not.

Yes - what Sarah said - the Igenex WB test will not show how much infection you have.
In fact, some people who are very ill, because of immune suppression...will not test positive, and have very few, if any bands show up.

RICE - Rest Ice Compression Elevation until you get the MRI. No squatting, kneeling, running or lots of steps. I am sure that your ortho told you all of this and he should have also mentioned taking an anti-inflammatory.
A big glass of water with the anti-inflammatory so your tummy stays safe.
Knee pain hurts and there is sometimes no non painful position. I hope it is only tendonitis and nothing is torn.

What PeteZa said. When you overdo exercise, your body has much more acid than it usually has due to anaerobic metabolism. This can be a problem because the acid helps lower synovial fluid pH in the joints. Inflammation from Lyme does the same thing and can be doubly bad.
When talking tendons, they can suffer in their regenerative properties due to a lack of magnesium among other things. This may be why your Epsom salt baths are helping. When we herx, we need something. It may be magnesium, it may be a need to reduce ammonia, it may be a need to increase antioxidants like glutathione, it may be a need for additional water in the interstitial space around cells, it may be a need for electrolytes like sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, or several others. It is very difficult to determine what we need when we herx, but if we don't ever try to find what we need, we won't ever find it.

Tinidazole is related to flagyl and can cause nerve damage. Also that diflucan can inhibit p450. ..how is your liver enzymes?
