It seems to me that you cannot go to a doctor and walk out without a prescription or a test authorization. They are dang good at giving those out.

I don't know if it is the malpractice fear or the God complex. I can't figure it out.

I am not thrilled with doctors and I basically tell them what I want and what I will do. What are they going to do? Fire me? LOL!! See, I know they are suppose to work FOR me.

There's no reason why the lemons in the medical world should detract from your pride as a RN.

I agree that the medical profession in general has let Lymies down....big time. There are always exceptions.

We no longer offer healthcare here in the US - it's sick care.....that's the only type of medicine doctors seem to be taught.

And, we all know Lyme knowledge is lacking.....horribly.

cd: it's not the lemons that cause me to say that. It's that nurses have been acted upon by 'change agents' just like the rest of society. Largely being dumbed down, trained rather than educated and really are now pharmaceutical pushers along with the MD's. Truly, how I've seen the profession change in 35 years blows my mind. No, I'm no longer proud of it. I think individual nurses can still make a difference with their skills, but the profession at large has been taken over by the same bunch that seem to be taking over everything.

mpost: admittedly, I could only watch the first few minutes of that video but what I come away with is How much we as a society have been used, abused and propagandized in every way and how miserably complicit the 'media' is in that. 'News organizations'....what a joke.

When I was diagnosed I had a infectious disease dr get mad at me and literally yelled "listen to me, you do not have lyme" All I was doing at the time was asking about it because I thought that was what was wrong because I had been bitten so many times in the hunting season prior to that summer. I will never forget that lady. I wanted to take my Igenix results back to her soooo bad after i finally got tested. Ignorant!

It seems to have been that kind of month for me. I had one practice dump me. The pain doctor there said you need to see a rheumatologist. No kidding. My dr (part of their practice) was a rheum but when he "retired" they blocked me forming appointment with one of the other docs in the practice. She said they would no longer continue my meds and when I asked what she could do for me she said "if looks could kill I'd be dead" then got up and left. She gave me referral to practices that don't treat Fibromyalgia. She did write me the hydrocodone script as a taper. But she neglected to write some of the other meds that just can't be stopped so i was a pain in the butt until I got some of my scripts.

That's the diagnosis I'm stuck with. I'm not sure if a Lyme is a worse diagnosis.

They did "fire" me. I got a letter in the mail stating they were dropping me as a patient. I laughed my butt off though. It was certified with a return receipt request, but the post office just put it in my mailbox without a signature or taking of the return receipt. So they will have to send it again. Small victories.

I did find a group that treats Fibro and they immediately referred me to a pain clinic. To be fair the doc was nice and she is prescribing my meds to get me through the short term.

I went to that pain clinic and she told me to do yoga and feel better about myself. When I asked about LDN for the pain, she interrogated me about how I knew about it. Duh, I'm not dumb after 35 years of pain and 15 years with the Fibro diagnosis does she really think I'm not going to go look for answers on my own. I then got lectured about reading things on the internet and told I need to join a support group. A "real" one where I am in the same room as other people. My thoughts were first, are you going to pick me up and drive back and forth. Second, I've done that and either it's been a pity party or I've been the one doing the support.

Boy, I'm starting to sound like a pity party. Not my intent.

So she referred me to another pain clinic who also don't treat Fibromyalgia. I'm done being a cooperative patient. I'm ignoring their calls. I don't need to go to another doctor that is going to tell exercise is the answer so you should just come here three times a week so we can make you do exercise that will cause a flare in my pain.

I do however have an appointment with a doc that does write for LDN. Don't know how that will go. They are a Family medicine practice that uses a mix of regular meds and holistic practices. I don't need a new PCP. I just want someone to treat my pain seriously. I also have an appointment with a Nutropath next week. I made that appointment because she is on a list on the MTFHR site and although I don't have that mutation, I have just about every other.

Boy am I dreading those appts.

Today was a good day though. I went in to see a psychologist we used for my son in Elem Schl because of issues with rages and ADHD. They also diagnosed him with ASD. That was any ages ago, but i reconnected with him. He just let me talk then said wow how are you managing all that. He also said we expect the medical community to welcome us and take us in (complete with arm movements like a hug) but they have failed me. Hallelujah. Some one is listening. He also acknowledged that people on the forum likely know more than the docs because we have a vested interest in finding a solution. The docs don't.

So yeah its nice to have someone who listens and says yeah the medical system is failing me. I can also talk about using herbals not just for myself but my son. We are both interested to see what happens when my son is treated. This doc sees kids all over the spectrum so I wonder if he has other patients with similar situations. Mom with chronic pain and a kid with ASD, ADHD, motor dysgraphia.

Traveler, I am very encouraged that some of your never issues resolved. I know it will take time, but I have hope that my 16 yr old will eventually be able to actually write his name.

Summary: the medical community has failed us but there are some good people out there and you guys are the best.

Sorry to go on, I still haven't got all the anger and resentment out. Sorry I kind of hijacked the thread.

I really do appreciate everyone sharing.
