Hi guys,

I met with a new LLMD this week and was given a 10 day supply of Alinia to try out. If it works out ok then I will get a prescription. I know it's very expensive. I have only been on a homeopathic remedy so this will be my first med. Do any of you have experience with Alinia? Any input will help greatly:)

I had to google it and it says it is to treat diarrhea caused by a parasite infection.

I have not tried it, but this will bump you to the top.

I've heard it's great for certain parasites, that's all. I think I read something about it in relation to FL1953 (protomyxzoa rheumatica). It might have action against Babesia. That seems like a fair guess.

It's definitely something I would let to try, but cannot.

Allinia is under his 'Tier 3" for Babesia treatments:


Nitazoxanide

Nitazoxanide 500mg (Alinia) is a prescription medication is approved for the treatment of intestinal parasites. However it seems to help with babesia as well. Take 1 pill 2 times a day. In the US it is sold as a brand only medication. In Canada it is made only at compounding pharmacies but does not seem to be as effective as the brand version.

My last two LLMDs both prescribed Alinia. I think it's from Klinghardt's protocol maybe? They've both had lots of success with it. For some reason I did really well with it for about a month and then developed really painful urination (but not a UTI) to the point I couldn't take it anymore. Neither of my doctors had heard of that happening (so it must be rare), but I stopped it for about 4 months, started it again, and I had the same symptom. I was pretty bummed. I got mine from a pharmacy in Canada so it ended up being about $100 a month.

Do you live in the US? Would you mind sharing the pharmacy because with insurance it will cost me around 1,500$ My dr gave me a 10 day sample to see how I do on it. But I've heard from a few people you can get it from Canadian pharmacies. And if it seems to work out well for me I would like to continue its use but obviously can't afford 1,500$ for a month supply!

I took Alinia for 3 weeks (3 days consecutive per week) for Babesia. First round hit me hard got a hot head feeling and felt sick. Second round less so and by end of third round didn't do much so I stopped. From what I've heard/read it can be effective but depends on the individual. I'd put it in the same category as Ivermectin in terms of success rate on those who've tried it.

Have you ever tried Coartem? This is far cheaper and a greater success story.

I've taken Alinia but I don't know if I had enough doses to do anything. My insurance only covered 6 pills a month. I think I ended up taking it wrong, I took it once a day. If I took it twice a day, I would only have 3 days worth. I would get pretty bad stomach cramps by the 5th day of just taking one. I tolerate abx very well. This was the first one that upset my stomach. Don't know if I would be able to tolerate it with the proper dosage for longer period of time.
