Hi all, I have recently been trying to kick a cold for the past few weeks and have been using muccinex to help clear head congestion. After I take it, I experience slot of herxing type reactions. Has anybody experienced this before? I know claritan has been thought to kill Lyme bacteria. I'm not sure if muccinex has simillar type meds in its formula?

I am pretty sure the Claritan killing bacteria story was debunked because of the amount of Claritan you had to take. It was totally unfeasible.

Believe me, if there was a way to kill this bacteria with an over the counter anything, that company would be what I invested my money in. There is no such lyme killer known yet.

I take benadryl and it is a detox method and keeps the herx away. I have mucinex and have thought about taking it especially when I wake up all phlegmy.

If you are sick and have lyme too your body is fighting with everything it has and you are sure to feel horrible all over. Possibly even feeling herx like. It is a double whammy on your poor body. Rest, lots of liquids and eat healthy healing foods.

Only very, very high doses of Claritin will kill the Lyme bacteria. Normal dose is 10 mgs and the dose for killing the Lyme bacteria are above 40 mgs a day (I don't remember the exact dose they were talking about).

I use muccinex from time to time as well, but I've not noticed any herx like symptoms. What type of Muccinex are you using? There are several different types :www.mucinex.com/social-support/drug-facts/

The other thing you have to be aware of is that you could be reacting to one of the 'inactive' ingredients.

Traveler, I'm taking muccinex DM which is supposed to thin secretions. The only other new thing that I'm taking is d mannose . I've been taking it for recurrent bladder infections. I know d mannose is a sugar, I'm wondering if it is affecting yeast ? I have lots of issues with yeast. Are you familiar with d mannose? Petza, I agree whole heartedly......having Lyme makes everything more complicated eyes even a simple cold !!!!

It does complicate. I am curious, however. Don't you think mucinex could be breaking up biofilm?

Also, I don't ever get colds. It seems lymies either get every cold that comes a long or not at all.

Yes, I agree purple tulip, this has been my first real illness in 4 years! I don't know if that's a good or bad thing!! Maybe my body is getting back to normal? Or I'm just unlucky and have nasty cold. Does anybody have any knowledge of d mannose and yeast because of it being a sugar?
