Rifampin & orange urine

I would probably do the same thing. In the meantime you can always call your pharmacist. I would also drink lost of water to flush it out of my system and with a little lemon will be healing to your liver.

RhodeIslander - That is normal with Rifampin. In fact, your stool can even go a bit orange.

One time in the evening, I couldn't remember if I had taken my evening dose...I went pee...it was orange..so I knew.

Rifampin is supposed to be hard on the liver....but your pee turing orange isn't a sign that your liver is suffering.

BTW, i had trouble with my liver enzymes going up prior to Rifampin. And after an antibiotic break, they went back to normal...and continued to drop after i went on Rifampin. For me, so far Rifampin is kind to my liver.

I've had dark orange pee from Rifampin since I started it 6 weeks ago. Perfectly normal. Also your stool turns a slight orange color as well. Don't stop taking your meds this is normal.

If you got the orange urine, that means you are taking it properly!!!

On my rifampin medicine bottle it says take 1 hour before food or 3-4 hours after food... Basically on an empty stomach.

If you take it with food and it turns your poop reddish orange that means you didn't take it properly and instead of dissolving in your system it dissolved into your food and you just pooped it out.

This was an important learning in my experience with rifampin... Take only on an empty stomach to maximize effectiveness of the med. this could be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful treatment with rifampin.

LP - I take mine an hour before food, and I get the orange urine, and also a bit of color in my poop, too. It definitely wasn't taken with food.
