How long did it take people on Flagyl to respond with C. Diff Symptoms (sorry not Candida)

I have been pretty sick for the past month with nausea and diarrhea. I thought the nausea was the result of pain from headaches. But then the diarrhea started.

I reached a point over the weekend where I was very dehydrated and ended up in the emergency room. My blood pressure was in the toilet and they gave me iv fluids. I felt a lot better but the doctor wanted to admit me. His concern was my bp would drop again. There is no way I would be able to sleep at the hospital and I was freezing to death. I also didn't have my meds. So I said no.

Problem is I continued to feel very bad so I went back. This time I was able to give a stool sample and the doctor gave me meds for nausea. He called my gastroenterologist (who I haven't seen in a year) and they agreed to put me on Flagyl because they had the stool sample to test. The ER doc is thinking candida. No kidding.

It's possible that I upset things in my belly and that allowed the candida to take the lead in symptoms.

I know that I have to take probiotics.

I just wondered how long it took people to respond. Ive been reading up and found that generally they prescribe a combo of antibiotics. I see the gastroenterologist friday. But I was curious if people had quick response.

Flagyl is used to treat bacterial vaginosis. Did they determine that's what you had? If it was a stool test, then that doesn't sound like bacterial vaginosis...

Yeast infection is a fungus...isn't it? I would think Diflucan would be what you want.

I am aware of Pirouette's posts and I actually have Nystatin powder but have been too sick to try it. I think its possible that everything in my system got upset. In December I got norovirus on vacation and haven't been the same since.

I looked on webmd because the doc mentioned it really sounded like candida. They weren't going to do anything except fluids but I had a gastro they could call and it was apparent that fluids wasn't going to help other than to keep my blood pressure up.

Webmd said that Flagyl was used in combo with vancomycin and possibly one other to treat it.

Since I already had a stool sample the gastro said it wouldn't hurt to give me the Flagyl. I did start feeling better today, but I'm not sure if I would respond that fast. It could just be that over time I eat the diarrhea starts again so I stop eating. I have not been able to stomach any food even though I am starving.

I should know by tomorrow if its that I haven't eaten because I was starving for the first time in a month and ate dinner.

I suspect that if its the Flagyl it would be a temporary fix because it is so hard to get rid of, but its worth a try.

Yes, I'm taking 500 2x daily. Did I get things wrong? Is c-diff not candida? that is what they are testing for. If I got it wrong, what is c-diff? I was working from memory and Flagyl rang a bell. So how accurate is the c-diff test?

Yeah, I ate yesterday and my stomach gurgled all night long but no diarrhea. The nausea is not as bad and sometimes goes away. But I am amazingly better.
