Hi there. I was wondering if I could ask a quick question. about
7 years ago when I was 20, a friend of mine gave me a kitten to take home. On the car ride home that night, he clawed me a lot. The next day I woke up really sick. I can't remember if I had fever but I had severe brain fog, blurred vision, fatigue, memory problems, and started getting anxiety issues from that morning on. I didn't put together at the time that the symptoms could be from the cat and kept him for 4-5 more years after. I started thinking that my symptoms could be due to allergies even though I never had any of the classic symptoms such as coughing and sneezing, and I had a cat when I was a child and never had any allergy issues. I've been cat free now for a few years and my symptoms have still not gone away. The brain fog/blurred vision is constant and I'm always fatigued. I've had my blood checked for basically everything, thyroid, hormones, cbc, vitamin deficiencies...and it always comes back normal. I also had a brain MRI and EEG which was normal. I recently came across a lot of websites about
their kitten giving them bartonella. I doubt that I have lyme disease since I live in Las Vegas and it seems uncommon. I read a lot of bartonella patients also complaining about
brain fog. I don't have any pain or burning though. Perhaps if I do have it, the symptoms never cleared up because he continued to bite and claw me on a regular basis for years. I was wondering if bartonella sounds likely in my case? Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I know my situation sounds complicated.

Welcome Wendyxo!
Sorry for the reason you're here but glad you found us.
It's entirely possible that you contracted Bartonella from your cat - that's the most common method of transmission.
Please know, though, that Lyme disease happens in every single US state. Not only can we get Lyme from an infected tick but, flies, mosquitoes and basically any biting insect.
As a thyroid patient for almost 10 years who was mismanaged until I became educated, I do wonder about
your thyroid testing since low thyroid can cause the same symptoms you've shared.
How about
posting your thyroid test results (with reference ranges)? Unfortunately, doctors look at "normal" (aka in-range) thyroid results and declare the patient normal when he/she is anything but. Healthy people have certain types of thyroid levels and I'll gladly show you how yours stack up.
The thyroid route is the easiest to pursue and that's why I suggesting addressing that first. If your thyroid is truly functioning properly, then you might want to see a LLMD (Lyme-literate MD).
But, first things first...
Good luck in your quest for answers!

I believe it is possible to have bartonella without the pain or burning. I have bart, along with Lyme and babesia, and the three infections have a lot of common symptoms. My LLMD only suspected and treated for Lyme and bab at first because I didn't have any symptoms that were really notable for bart. I only found out I had bart when I started taking A-L Complex for Lyme and started having shin bone pain, which is a classic bart symptom. I think that the A-L Complex killed just enough of the bart to cause a herx. So now I'm treating for all three infections.

Hi Wendy, and welcome. You assumption sounds just about
right, as Cd said, and imo - the only way you will find out is if you attempt treatment. Do you have a Dr that would be willing to listen to your story?

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read my thread. :) Cd37 I thought the same thing years ago after looking at thyroid symptoms. I wish I still had my results. A homeopathic doctor I was seeing at the time tested me for it. I should get retested. The only reason I don't think it's my thyroid is because my symptoms literally began the next morning after having the kitten. Does a low thyroid usually cause weight gain or weight loss? I've always been very thin. I'm 5'2, 100 pounds... I don't really think it can be lyme disease either. I hadn't been in any areas where I could have been bitten by a tick. I'm not an outdoorsy person... Unless the kitten brought the tick in, but he was at my friends house since he was born. Also I was reading that it takes a full 24 hours before getting infected. I picked the cat up around 12 at night and felt sick early in the morning... no more than 8 hours. My situation sounds strange, I know. I thought Bartonella sounded more likely after hearing about
the neurological symptoms others feel from it. The few MDS I've seen haven't even suggested bartonella or lyme. Just asked me if I've ever been anemic and called it a day. I messaged a doctor online who treats lyme and bartonella and he sent me a list of herbs, natural antibiotics, and essential oils to help cure it. I'm going to take the next month to detox and try them all and see what happens.

Nosila, did the shin bone pain go away? How long does a herx usually last? I'm a little scared to experiment if it can cause new permanent symptoms.
