TEST THE ACTUAL TICK-FREE

I just sent in my first tick of the season! Thankfully (?!) it was on my dog and not me. I'm guessing it was only attached a couple hours from when I let him out, to when I found it (on his face) :(

It will be interesting to see what information they report. I will update when I get any info.

Hope your pooch doesn't get it. Gosh I look back now & 20 years ago I had a friend treating her dog for LD.

And as for jumping ones, I remember going to a nj hiking trail where they had just put up a sign "Beware-deer tick season." We look down & see (some seen by us wearing contrasting light colored clothing) a million of these tiny specks, like fleas, on our clothing & on our dogs. This was before most were aware of the Lyme connection (tho, i am now remembering at that time [10 years ago], we had heard of a 16 year old cousin to a friend whose legs were paralyzed & they diagnosed LD). Anyway, we boycotted the hike, wiped down & got the hell out of Dodge, but who knows if these suckers had already done their thing!

I hope you all report back findings & more folks do send in specimens.

I'm 99% positive the tick I pulled off my dog was a male dog tick, so I kind of figured they weren't going to find much. I really thought they were only going to be interested in testing deer ticks, but still glad they got back to me.

If I ever get another one (and hopefully that won't be!) I wouldn't hesitate sending it to them again and I do hope this helps them with their research.

sent in 2 over the last 2 days. One was a wood tick and one was a dog tick so we will see. Our family for Lyme's awareness month are doing a study and we are going to go collect ticks to send in and check for the prevalence of lyme's in our area. Although we are going to go drag for ticks to find deer ticks. Will let you know what our research shows.

They say it takes about a week, but mine was closer to 2-3 weeks back in April. I wonder since tick season is underway if they are getting backed up?
