Bart rash fading but symptoms unchanged

My son has had the classic bart rash since last May. Started as a few red streaks and as the months went on his whole back was covered. I just checked them again and I noticed they have faded a lot. Unfortunately his symptoms (fatigue, insomnia, headaches...) have not changed. He started on Doxy last Sept and is now taking Malarone and Mino. Dr thinks he is also fighting babesia. Has anyone see this happen? I am thinking he still needs more time on the abx. He just stared the Malarone & Mino two months ago.

The doxy isn't enough to treat bart effectively. he will need another bart med to add to it. How long was he on just the doxy alone?

It's not unusual for the bart rashes to come and go...

Malarone and mino will go after the Babesia, but most likely will need something else for the Bartonella.

Rifampin is one that's often used.

I would caution you about having him take any from the Fluoroquinolone class - as they come with a black box warning - for tendon rupture. They have also been show to cause peripheral neuropathy.
I consider it a 'last resort' treatment.

Rifampin can be hard on the liver...but I feel comfortable on it...as long as monthly liver function tests are done.

He is off the Doxy since he started the Malarone and Mino combo.

I have noticed some yellowing in the white of his eyes. Could that be from any abx or the lyme?

What else can he take for bart besides Rifampin?

The yellowing of the whites of the eyes is a sign that the liver is struggling pretty hard. You need to get a hold of his doctor right away and let them know.

Is your son doing much detoxing? Is he taking milk thistle or doing anything specific for helping his liver?

He is taking Milk Thistle and NAC. We see our lyme dr in two weeks.

Some Dr.'s will prescribe Bactrim DS with a macrolide (biaxin or azithromycin).

Yes my bart streak (red stretch mark) looking "rashes" go away in a couple of hours.

How old is your son. I ask because fighting these infections isn't only about dumping abx's into one's system. Are other things being done to boost the immune system (i.e. addressing vitamin deficiencies, nutrition, gut health, etc)?

I've had what I can only describe as permanent sunburn on the bridge of my nose and under my eyes for the past 8 months or so. LLMD most definitely thinks its bartonella related. Hasn't gone away and I started actively going after Bart with Rifampin also Cipro then Biaxin now Doxy. I've had the classic heel pain but only briefly. Also sore calves but they appear to be gone for the moment.

I would second Traveler's warning on the Fluoroquinolones. I was on Cipro for a few weeks and I got major numbness in my toes and partially in my fingers and it wasn't the bugs it was the Cipro. Nasty drug avoid it if you can.
