I had accidentally broken a window in my ground level bedroom, when I was living with my mother, back in 2008.
Then, I decided to take a nap, after which I awoke to find some "bugs" crawling around on my head. I didn't see them at first, or, in my opinion, even feel, but rather I sensed them.
Something just didn't feel right. Some thing is crawling around on my head.
I started running my fingers through my hair, and one of the bugs fell out onto my bed. I examined it, and thought it was strange, because I'd never seen an insect quite like it before. It was small, flat-looking, weird, black legs, tiny little head with the pincer-looking things, and black body with a touch of red. I thought it was some exotic brand of spider.
I brushed it onto the ground and stepped or squished it with something, thinking it was done, dead, over with.
Then, I began looking for more, which was quite the chore, because my hair was pretty long at the time.
In all, I'd say I found about 3 or 4 these bugs. It wasn't until the last one that I realized that they weren't dying when I was attempting to kill them. I took a book to it, went an found a shoe, pressed down on it with the full weight of my upper body. It just kept crawling. It wasn't until I went and found a pencil or pen and pierced its body that it finally died. I felt the crunch too, which was really surprising to me, considering how small it was.
Shame is, by the time I'd realized, I could not find the other bugs. My floor was a very dark color, they were very small. I did try.
But, eventually, I just brushed them off. They're gone, I thought, off living the rest of their buggy lives.
I didn't know they were ticks. No one ever talked about them, tickborne illnesses, nothing like that. I had no idea.
It wasn't 'til a few years later, after my health had started falling apart, through research that I'd realized what the bugs were and what I was likely being affected by, Lyme disease.
I don't know why it took so long.
Looking back, I remember having some type of illness within the couple weeks after, aches, chills, fever, etc.
Other than that, no real pronounced physical symptoms for at least a couple years after I was infected. Mine started with very subtle, yet gradually increasing, mental disturbances - thinking patterns, personality changes, etc. Ache in one of my elbows, some clicking of the joints, whatnot, but nothing real crazy.
2011 is when it started to go downhill fast.
Early 2012, I found Lyme, tried the doctor route. Failed, resigned to living sick until I died/killed myself.
Summer of 2013, made a post here, someone reached out to me through email, gave me some options for alternative methods, tried them out, etc.
Just been trying to figure things out ever since, up and down, up and down.. you know the drill.
