Hi Everyone,
First off, Thanks for having such a great forum! I've been reading every single thing I can for the last few weeks since my Husband was diagnosed with Lyme and Babesia. This 'Journey' has been horrible LOL! I'd love to skip over this chapter.... But, we have to just learn as much as we can and get thru it.

We live in the heart of Long Island NY. Suffolk County. He was in the hospital for a week under the care of an ID dr. Now from speaking to this Dr., he told me not to research on the internet, that after this course of antibiotics he will be fine, and that there is no such thing as Chronic Lyme...


He said he had 5 bands out of 10, his parasite load was .7% if that makes a difference..

Can anyone point me to a decent Dr. that's NOT in CT? I've read the newbie section and tried the pages that you can put in your zip code.. most will bring up CT.

Any advice, direction will be very appreciated!!

5 out of 10 bands is a lot of bands. Do you have the results? I'm assuming that was a positive test result...and there were lyme specific bands (since he was treated for lyme by an ID Dr.)

He said this parasite load was .7%? I don't know how he would test for that...

Your husband is fortunate to have you as his support system. He is going to need it.
..and your positive attitude will go a long way.

It may take awhile for you to get recommendations from members as not all members are on here daily.

You can email the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance at medicalinfo@tbdalliance.org​ for LLMD referrals and you can go to ​tbdalliance.org​​ to learn more about these infections.


You can go to The Lyme Disease Association and search for LLMD's 3 times in a month. You have to register first. Here is the link:

Traveler - I think it's ILADS Physician Referral that goes by Zip Code and sends you three in that area.

LOL! Okay, thanks Girlie! There are no LLMD's in my area and it was 9 years ago that I last used any search engine for finding a LLMD!

When he was in the hospital, I asked the nurses for a copy of all blood work done that day. I was floored when they said a word I've never heard of 'Babesia'. They put him on Mepron and Zithro for 8 days for that and Doxy for 3 weeks for Lyme. We go back for blood work to recheck parasite load this week. Name of the test on paper is MALARIAL/BABESIA QUANT and PERIPHERAL BLOOD PARASITE EXAMINATION. One is to see if it is present the other is to count the load. He said it's a basic test? I think it's really important to know the counts. If it's above 0% he has to go back on something else but his liver test are very high, ALT 271 AST 174.

It's like, the more I read, The more confused I get.. LOL But I keep smiling and don't tell him anything but "It's going to be OK"
Meanwhile, I'm screaming and crying on the inside.

Babesia is a common co-infection of Lyme Disease. Lyme rarely travels alone.


It's wise of you to find a LLMD...as your husband will be needing more than a few weeks of antibiotics.
...and for Babesia - it is a different treatment.

As I said above, I do have some listings for LLMD's on Long Island, if you will email me, I'll be happy to share them with you.

And the parasite they are looking at is Babesia. It's a blood parasite, that's why they are testing his blood like that. He has not been tested (most likely) for other parasites.

And as Girlie said, he will likely need more treatment than just a few weeks, especially since he is positive for Lyme as well.

I live on long island in suffolk county and i dont think there are any good llmd drs around here. I went to a dr in ct.

I hope you find somebody decent. Your husband is a lucky guy that he has you. the information and different treatment plans are so overwhelming.

I am seeing an acupuncturist now who is treating me with herbs and acupuncture.
It helped a little bit. Still not perfect. He is local if you want to try him. Email me if you are interested. He is in Smithtown.

Hi Joey,

Sorry to hear about your husband.. I am originally from Long Island though I moved to another state. Anyway, I know of a doctor who is lyme literate that is on Long Island who sent my blood to IgeneX (I never heard of that lab before) and also prescribed months of Doxy for me, if you want his name please e-mail me.

P.S.: Abx didn't work for me but everyone is different. I have been healed for over 10 years now from using alternative medicine.

aphysicalwreck, did you see Dr. P? If so, were you happy with him? I recently saw Dr. C. in NY and it was not a good experience.
