Simon Templar and Krimpet,
You both stated that when the numbers are abnormally high, that means an active infection.
I had supposedly recovered from EBV in 2012, but a lab test said my numbers were very high in 2014. And my pc doc said that meant that I was super immune.
The test ordered last month by my LLMD showed:
EB VIRUS ANTI-VCA, IGG
REFERENCE RANGES EBVG >=22.0 u/mL .... POSITIVE
IgG Result 260.0 U/ml H (Down from 296.0 in 2014)
EB Virus NUCLEAR ANTIGEN IgG
REFERENCE RANGES >=22.0 .... POSITIVE
EBNA-1 RESULT >600.0 U/mL H (Same as 2014)
The LLMD is treating me for EBV because, like you, he says that with high numbers, he treats as if the infection were current.
The numbers are very confusing to me, but I feel much better after three weeks on acyclovir, 400 mg twice daily.
(Am I reading the (< ) and (>) signs wrong? To me, Simon Timplar, the last numbers you posted look like positive results with high numbers.)
(P.S. Sam, my pc said that 90+% of the population had Epstein Barr when they were kids and were immune. And most had no idea that they had a virus. Then those who had not had it as kids, got Mono as teens or young adults. And they, too, are supposedly immune.)
