Questions for those of you using Sida Acuta. I have been taking this for a couple of months and recently found that I get very jittery and have heart palps and chest tightness after taking it. Up to 1/4 tsp 2x / day. I am considering stopping this and trying either Houttuynia or Cumanda. Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

I was one that could not take Sida because of the rapid heart rate it gave me. I could not take Eleutherococcus either. I healed without those.

For Babs I used Cryptolepis and for Bart I used Houttuynia.

But, I did Buhner's core protocol also. And I detoxed and ate healthy.

According to Buhner, Sida acuta protects "the red blood cells and for relieving anemia by increasing red blood cell numbers. It's also a strong, very systemic broad spectrum antibacterial for Babesial parasites."
(Pg 90 in his Babesia book).

He also notes (on page 94) that "some people are highly sensitive to this herb; it may, under certain circumstances, increase symptoms. If so, reduce the dose to just under the dosage that increases symptoms."

I don't have his Bartonella book, and it seems you are treating Bart, since you are thinking of switching to Houttuynia (the only infection that this herb is really effective for). Although it is usually quite strong for most people, you may find it easier to tolerate than the Sida Acuta.

Just remember to start off with a very small dose.

Also, do be sure that you are detoxing enough! That could mean the difference between tolerating an herb and not tolerating it.

Thank you. We are basing the bart diagnosis on symptoms. The bart test I had a few years ago was negative but the neuro symptoms, horrific foot, ankle, and shin pain fit. I also thought, based on some air hunger during night and sweats that I might have babesia too which I why I tried the sida. Do you think I would be better off trying Cumanda or would cryptolepis and houttuynia be a better choice?

It might be a Bart herx. You could try lowering the dose and upping your detox. If that does not work, you might stop the Sida. I found it very helpful in combination with other herbs. Buhner says that not all herbs are right for every person.

Woodland Essence sells a tincture called CSA, which is Crypto, Sida and Alchornea. If you buy Houttuynia, make sure to buy the fresh leaf version. It is much more effective.
