Cholestyramine works by binding to the toxins. If there is food or medicine in your stomach, it will bind to that, which makes it less effective.
It also pulls toxins from cells. It was designed to bind to cholesterol (labels intended use). If you have high cholesterol, CSM is not as effective in treating Lyme toxins or mycotoxins.
In my experience, it is a very strong binder. When I have taken it less than 2 hours after meds, it has sucked up my meds. As such, I take it 2 hours before or after any meds, supplements or food so that it is effective and does not bind to my meds.
Pure Cholestyramine is best if you can afford it. The regular CSM has lots of sugars / artificial sugars.
