I haven't eaten meat in over 7 years. Some people do well on vegetable proteins, or fish. Like said above, protein intake varies greatly depending on individual and add to that depending on how lyme is effecting them (in this particular case). Same goes with everything else, water or calories....so then, what is the point of even trying to give a suggestion?
To have a baseline is helpful to people who have no clue. Generally speaking, our society is heavily fed carbohydrates from sugars and grains and most people have trouble meeting even the minimal protein requirement. Of course human bodies adapts and people live on healthy or not because of various factors.
When our bodies get used to some food, yes even the bad ones, we tend to suppress good enzyme that help digestion and some individuals might have a genetic predisposition to a certain enzyme deficiency or a food intolerance.
The big catch here is not just protein alone but how tampered food is. Digesting a GMO turkey is slightly different than digesting a wild turkey. Add to that most people detest wild turkey because it presents a very strong gamey flavor. But yes, every single food we eat is not what it used to be 100 years ago and our bodies have not evolved that fast to adapt the GI tract to all these foreign compounds. This is why we all have much trouble with diseases.
