My point was not to get at you but to clarify that there is no real source of funding for these absolutely crucial research efforts at the present. When you used the word "independent" people may think the two researchers have access to some other pot of money. At the moment, they don't.

Dr MacDonald has spent a very large sum of his own personal money to make up a shortfall in what we were able to raise. Tom has also spent his own money on research.

While any of us, myself included, cannot afford to donate significant amounts, the truth is that there is plenty of money in the Lyme movement.

The problem is that a huge proportion of it is being diverted into the WRONG areas. For example, many of the major Lyme organisations allow "scientific advisory committees" that include many of our enemies to decide where the monies raised should go.

The result is we raise money to fund the same people who deny the realities of chronic Borreliosis in the face of all the evidence, or those who start their research on the premise that the Denialists are correct.

So basically we raise money to kick our own backsides.
