Bowdren,
I have lost my voice except for a whisper. If I try to talk normal it is quite difficult and squeeky sounding. Just in the past few days, even a whisper seems to be a struggle and I feel I have to work to get that much. I also seem to be choking on pills now too.
It started a week after my last llmd visit...a month ago. So I sat on it figuring it will go away eventually. I wasn't really concerned actually. It doesn't hurt and I haven't been sick with anything other than the lyme stuff. No cold or anything like that. Many Years ago I had this same thing but not as severe. At that time I saw my ent who did a scope and found nothing. Now I know it was lyme.
Well, I saw my llmd yesterday. He was quite concerned about
my voice. He called it a bells palsy of the nerve that innervates the voice box. If I can remember correctly it is cranial nerves 9 and 10 the glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves.
I have been in treatment for 7 months, but infected for 8 years. These past 7 months have been difficult. He offered last month to give me a referral to dr J in DC. I told him I would think about
it. (the dr I am currently seeing is brilliant. He is a member of ILADS and I was very happy with his care so not sure if I should switch)
Well, the choice has been made and he made it for me. He is adamant that I need to start IV antibiotics (which he doesn't do) and wants me to see dr J in DC asap. He is fearful if I don't get on this quickly I may lose my voice permanently.
I don't mean to scare you....but you may want to call your dr and get their opinion.
