Co-Infection Testing?

A thread I just read brought up a new question for me. Can you ONLY be tested for co-infections through Igenex or a similar lab? Or can my doctor order individual co-infection labs through Quest? I understand that IGENEX doesn't follow the guidelines and is super sensitive (and I'm sure it's worth it), but I'm wondering if I can start with my doctor ordering something as I do NOT have the $400-$500 to pay out of pocket right now for testing.

If you can get testing that doesn't cost anything...or little...then it's worth a try IMO.

I hadn't tested for the co's...but after a year of treating bartonella (and prior lyme) - I decided to pay for a test - not through Igenex or Galaxy lab...the bart tests (pcr - urine and blood) was $125.

It came back positive. ...meaning they found the dna of the bacteria in my blood.
It gives me more confidence to continue treating bart.

Girlie, Thank you. Did you just not decide to test for the Babs? Or is that the lesser of the evils?

I did test Babesia when I tested for Bartonella - and it was negative...but that really doesn't mean anything.

With the PCR - you 'hope' that in the sample they get that there happens to be the bacteria in it...


It's like if you have a big bowl red jello (that is your blood)...and sporadically in that red bowl of jello is the bacteria - little green blobs . You randomly grab a sample...and look for the green blobs in that sample.
Did the sample you grab have any green blobs?

It can be missed.
