I didn't read the whole thread, and I'm sure someone's said this, but bands 34 and 39 are specific for Borrelia Burgdorferi. This is your biggest clue that you're Lyme positive.
Band 34 (Osp B) is actually what they used in the Lyme vaccine, and thus, is not included in certain labs diagnostic evaluation since anyone who got the vaccine will have a positive at 34.
Band 41 is not specific for Borrelia, but is specific for the tail of a spirochete.
Band 31 can potentially cross-react with Band 41, hence the IGENEX isotope test.
band 31 can potentially cross-react with viruses, eg. EBV and the vaccine can cause a positive 31.
Dr. Horowitz says band 31 is in his list - says the virus issue is rare...and thinks the vaccine was so many years ago, he doesn't think it's significant.
So, the epitope is ruling out anything other than Bb causing the positive band.(31)
I have not heard of band 31 cross-reacting with band 41 before...I agree. I'm lyme positive on the IFA and then also had 31 and 41. So it's further data/evidence that 31 and 41 (especially a combo of the two) is a very high probability of lyme. I agree with the rarity that it's something else.
Couple this with symptoms of the original poster then it's pretty much guaranteed. Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and you know how the rest goes.My husband's only + bands were 31 and 41 with a couple IND other lyme bands.
His epitope test came back positive.
Band 31 and 41 as only positives seems to be quite common
