If we are careful to stay hydrated, then exercise (as tolerated) is good - otherwise your doc would be correct.
As for the liver being the only organ to move toxins, she's wrong. The kidney's move toxins as well as the skin, lymph system and more. Very, very few MD's and even alternative medicine doctors know as much about
detoxing as a long term Lyme patient - seriously!!
I was using a TCM/Master Western Herbalist for my first healing, and she only understood about
half of the detoxing routines I was using. I don't fault them, they just don't know - so as long as they are willing to learn and not just spout out what they learned 'in school', then I don't mind guiding them to sites/information that will teach them more.
I've had doctors tell me I'll harm my body by trying to help it detox (this one blew me away - I had no words! ), as well as something similar to what you were told. We have to remember that we are not doing a special cleanse like most people would think about
, we are removing very specific toxins that have been proven to be produced when the Lyme bacteria and Candida die off (Bartonella is suspected, but has not been proven as far as I have found). This is not what most people think of when they are asked about
detoxing.
Here are a few articles that I have marked to help explain this. I hope you find them helpful:
