Many chronic lyme sufferers are in remission, but their fate is very much the same. It can surface at any time in the future.
Technically that's true for anyone that has the borrelia bacteria in them, right?
Certain things make me question how long me and some of my family members were carrying around borrelia before the "crashes" began. In hindsight there's some things in my sister's medical history going back to childhood and early adulthood that seems really suspect. There's some key things I can look back on over the last 3-5 years that raises similar suspicions for myself. Same with my mother.
It can surface anytime after being under the surface for a long while. My mom had a lyme crash. A year later my sister and I followed with our own lyme crashes.
We are not "cured" 100% but doing really well. Remission is more of a spectrum, then an "on/off" state.
The really crappy part is, no matter how well I feel, I know the other shoe can drop. Do I have another lyme crash in a couple years after borrelia builds up its army in the shadows again and I have to start all over?
And is that reality for the rest of my life? A couple years here, and few years there of feeling okay and then bam, start all over.
