I have to turn now my dream job offer right?

Mourning my old life big time today.

I had a career/job I LOVED. With lots of very exciting travel, which I also love.

Have been keeping ex-boss on hold since Labor Day weekend when she first asked if I would come back. Got a call Friday asking if I can come back and start January 17. I said yes. I have never mentioned Lyme.

Now my son may be home from school the remainder of year (repeating a grade). I can't leave him alone while having Lyme and the blues. Plus I am relapsing.

It's a pretty high stress position and I think I need to call on Monday and fess up. I feel if I turn this down I may not work again. I love working. Well, I love this career. Really pissed at Lyme today.

I'm so sorry Huddie. I'm sure your boss will be understanding and you never know, she may tell you to call her once the storm is over (or at least when it's only raining 😊). But also remember, now is definitely not the time for high stress, even if your son wasn't at home. So, honestly this may be a blessing in disguise to really be able to heal without interference. I know it's a bummer, that all this is even happening.

I think we all miss our former selves. It's like the "pause" button has been pushed. Be it career, travel, friends, school, etc. It just sucks to have our lives turned upside down. But I think it's also enables us to slow down and really take stock in what's really important and when we heal, we definitely won't look at things the same (e.g. good health, happiness, friends, careers) anymore.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am, Huddie. I've had to turn down my dream job - although that was many years ago. It's hard, but we have to do what we must to protect what health we do have - and wish to regain.

Huge hugs, Huddie. It stinks to be us. All we can do is persist with treatment and keep hope alive.

And don't forget, we really don't know what the future holds for us! I had to seriously question why I moved to Arkansas after my husband at the time passed away from cancer, as I was near no one that I knew or any family. But, somehow, I met the love of my life, have managed to heal because of his care and direction to help find a knowledgeable herbalist, and love the life I now have - even if I do have these diseases.

And now, I am on track to become an herbalist!! I would have never ever dreamed that these things would have happened to me, after having been so ill for so much of my life and all the road blocks that I have encountered in my own life. Huddie, you know from our personal emails tidbits of some of my roadblocks, and we have overcome some pretty hefty things, so that we could 'carry on'. I'd be willing to bet that there is something 'bigger and better' for you in your future.

Trav, tears of hope from your words (you really are pulling at all of my emotions today!). Love your story about ending up in a new place all alone and all good things happening (especially after so very much). I will hold your story in my mind when I'm feeling blue.

Maybe different things are in store for me.

July, Sorry about the disability. I truly am. This disease is so hard when so much goes to fighting it and paying to fight it.

Huddle if you focus on treatment perhaps you can return to your job within the next few years 😉 but grieving rn I think is normal. Remind yourself you can and will heal.

I am so sorry! I believe it is really best for you with the plateful of lyme that you deal with but that sure doesn't make it any easier.

I had to quit my career in fashion as well. It took me well over a year to get over it but I know now that there is no way I could have continued. I kept on with it long past the time I should have let go.

I pray one day you and your son will be well and you can get some semblance of the life you loved back. In the meantime, thank God you don't have to work and enjoy the good moments with your boy!

I hate telling people when we are in a social gathering - that I'm off work now for illness.

I'm so tired of saying it over and over again.

On the plus side of "personal development" from limitations, we are to some extent forced to making lemonade from lemons.

This can mean side $, part time work or what ever in something we didnt have time to do before with our "full time gigs".

The "what do you do?" question I always answered somewhat smart ***ed even with a full time job. I just mentioned a list of things I've done in my off time and past jobs only to overwhelm them, ha ha...

As if your daily job is who you are,... most people it isnt. If its a job based on personal interest/hobbies than yes, and consider yourself very lucky, but most have/had a "boring job" that pays the bills, and other intersts on the side..

Huddie, I'm so sorry. I had to "downsize" jobs last spring because my local project was ending and I would have been back on a weekly cross-country commute which I could not even think about handling (I could barely walk at that time, running through airports wasn't gonna happen). I do believe that there is a reason for everything and things work out in the end, so I hope there is another dream job, for whatever your dream may evolve to be, waiting for you once you and your son are well again.

Doesn't make it any easier to have to make that phone call, and I'm guessing there isn't any accommodation possible (working from home, etc.), so there's nothing for it but to regretfully make the call, grieve it briefly, and then turn and march/toddle/stagger/crawl onward.
