When did your LLMD to add in the doxy?

I'm thinking doxy first ....then malarone.

Lyme doctor did not add Doxy. yet.... was wondering if I should ask him to add it....

.. since it looks like Azithromycin is out for me....

Yes, you should tell him that you're not doing the zith - and are wanting to add in the doxy.

Well cut Celebrex dose to half 2.5 weeks ago.... and then last week stopped taking Celebrex completely. Lyme doctor wanted me off Celebrex as soon as I felt good enough. Knee swelling is much better..... Then got an MRI done on both my knees, both my doctor, orthopedic specialist and my Lyme doctor wanted to have this done...
MRI's show no knee damage, just some Edema and Synovial Imflammation and knee cap just slightly off-center, causing some friction for the knee cap tendon.....So the Lyme side will say Synovial Imflammation due to Lyme and the lyme hating doctors will say knee cap tendon is being aggravated.. But the constant swelling from June 28, 2016 seems more like Lyme. Started amoxicillion 1.5 weeks ago and things are going well....

BTW - what is your dosage of Amoxy? and are you taking it 3X daily?

(This is because of the very short half-life of one hour)


Also recommended: Taking Probenecid (an old gout medication) with it so you can keep the blood levels of amoxy higher for longer.

I took 1000 mg 3X daily with Probenecid.

Hi:

Amox. Dose is 500mg with breakfast and another 500mg with supper....then doubling in 2 weeks to 1,000mg with breakfast and 1,000mg with supper....

I only weigh 126 pounds....so it is a lot of Amox...

Actually that is a low amount when treating lyme. 2,000mg is under the recommendation.

it should be minimum 3000 mg daily divided into 3 doses.

When I was prescribed it, I was about your weight.

The ILADS guidelines say 3000-6000 daily.

Well - I was dancing around the kitchen yesterday....

and....

....Played some lite basketball the past couple of nights.....

and.... I feel NORMAL (I know this may just be the best time of the ups and downs)

Wonder if it is the Plaquenil covering up the Arthritis type joint pain from Lyme....

of.....

if it is the drugs kicking Lymes butt.....

Or probably some of both smile

Lyme is so weird. There are good days and bad days. That is just the way lyme goes. And then you add in getting used to meds or herbs. Oh and then there is the possibility of having a herx.

Did I mention lyme is weird. Sometimes there is just no rhyme or reason to it...... Just about the time you think you have it figured out, something from left field will appear and you will question what it is.

I don't know how many times I wondered if I should go to the doctor, ER or was it just lyme.

You will definitely learn more about your body than you ever can imagine when you have lyme disease.

Happy for your good days!!!! May they continue for a very long time.

I have been on a good upward direction for 6 weeks..... Some minor dips along the way....but been trending generally upwards.....will take the bad with the good though.....life is back to normal almost....

Well off to my Lyme doctor tomorrow for my second appointment....

See what he replaces the azithromycin - that I had a reaction to - with for a new antibiotic.....

Doing pretty good... the knee that was always worse feels a bit funny past few days.... Have had a bad cold....wonder if this affects anything....

Also wondering how long I will be on the Malarone....?

Please update us on how your appt. goes...

Malarone should be 4 (or is it 5?) months - I think this is due to the red blood cell life span.

Hi: Appointment went well...

Azithromycin is replaced by Clarithomycin and Bactrim... and also it was time to double the Amox to 4,000 mg a day and double the Malarone...on the question of Doxy, seemed like he was concerned that it was to hard on the stomach to be on for several months....Plaquenil dose is unchanged @ 200 mg, twice a day.

Now that he knows - I have not had any problems with Amox and Malarone..... So a gradual ramp up of the old drugs and a gradual ramp up on the new drugs.....think I better buy a bigger pillbox smile

Will be interesting to see where I am by May 1st... smile

So either add a new drug at a half dose, or double an old drug dose or double the dose of the recently added half dose drug... So only one of any changes of these every 7 days.....

The clarithromycin is biaxin. It's the Bactrim I forgot...

Things are going good..... added Clarithromycin (Biaxin) a couple weeks ago to replace the Generic Azithromycin that I had a very bad skin reaction to........ had a Herx for weekend and a half....after adding the Clarithromycin, but the Herx faded away good......

Final drug in my ramp-up added yesterday (Bactrim) - this was drug two to replace the Clarithromycin.

So still on a steady upward trend - since I started treatment Jan 1st..... some definite ups and downs, but trend is very clearly upwards.. about 80% better already.

Going to the Lyme Conference in Wiscasset, Maine on April 29th, then going to my Lyme Doctor after that. I am in Canada - so nice to be able to combine two things into one cross border trip.
