Do herxes cycle?

Can herxes cycle? If I have a herx at first, then feel better for a couple of weeks, and then have another issue is it possible that it is a herx when my bartonella is cycling or is that more likely a flare? I feel like I have had a pretty standard pattern...seem to have issues every 4 weeks or so. For a while I thought I was herxing, but now I"m wondering if I'm just flaring and these meds aren't doing anything.

When in an effect treatment, I herx every few weeks, depending on what I'm treating. I understand the difference between herxing and flaring, but if there is symptom relief after an "episode" (LOL), then it's a herx. If there is zero difference, then it's possibly a flare - which would mean either you are not far enough into your treatment protocol to effectively control the infection process, or you are not using an effective protocol for you, from my understanding of all of this.

Which infections cycle? My primary symptoms respond immediately but I've noticed other symptoms that only show up weeks after starting a regimine

Okay...so it seems that I have about a week long "episode" about once a month (with day to day variations in between). Usually after the "episode" I seem to feel better. I have been hoping that these are herxes, but never can tell. I guess I'll just continue to try to look on the positive side of it and say that they are herxes and I'm killing some nasty bartonella. smile

Psilo - That's what is happening to me this time. I had my usual initial reaction but I'm in week 3 of new meds and yesterday and today I feel like I got hit by a bus and have a bunch of new symptoms. Trying to stay hopeful that the new meds are hitting something the others haven't before.

Sorry, 1000Daisies!! I'm working with considerable brain fog!!

Psilo - they all "cycle" - it's when they are in the blood, dividing and replicating (or whatever it's called! Sorry, brain fog!) - Lyme "cycles" about every 3 - 5 weeks, Bartonella "cycles" about every 2 weeks (I believe) and Babesia can cycle about once a week - that's if I didn't get that all mixed up! This isn't information that is neatly compiled in one article, or even just a couple. It's stuff I've purposely researched.

Sounds just like me snarf. All my neuropathy and arthritis and pain in general was clearing. And now I have serious fatigue, brain fog, difficulty breathing, chills, etc. So I backed off the dose and am now relapsing on the others lol. This stuff is impossible sometimes

Yep...same here Psilo...I didn't have a lot of joint involvement and neuropathy was improving. Then I went on rifampin for bart and now I have extreme bone pain in arms and legs, bad muscle aches, fatigue, brain fog...the works. Feels like I'm back at square one. Hoping this is the "worse before better" stage.

Ahhh what do we even do about it? Start even slower? Lol. I thought I was going snails pace with knotweed. I couldn't even push through mine. I thought I was going to die if I took any more. Was even having shutter vision in class

Interestingly traveler. I thought the cycles were unique to certain blood parasites and relapsing fever groups. My borrelia starts dividing and scurrying around my body within hours of missing a dose...
