The immune system is obviously a key factor in all illnesses and autoimmune issues - if conventional medicine could crack the code on this it would be the best thing since discovering fire. And the big pharmacy would take a big drop in profits from less symptom meds.
There are recent studies and thus proof that over exercising (mainly endurance stuff, not just lifting) is actually detrimental to immune system strength.
From a teen to late 20's, I was always a fit, lean and strong rider competing / finishing top 10% in events that were 4-6 hrs long. Was in good shape, but I still got lyme and autoimmune thyroid.
I actually had lyme then, I looked very fit and was by the "athletic body numbers" too. However, the "numbers" cant measure exhaustion or pain - which were a "handicap" I had to deal with, which obviously got more challenging as time went on. It would be interesting to go back in time and get some modern tests done LOL!!!!
So athletes still get lyme too, and endurance athletes might even be more susceptible from lowered immunity. So I was affected, but far from bedridden for years, maybe that's ware being in good condition helped? It did creep up, 2008 I was finally toast.
I would get 2-3 colds a year, some co-workers with kids had colds every month. I never (knock on wood) had the flu that I know of and still dont get flu shots.
It seems that our immune systems are not equally strong in every department, remember, its not all "one", its divided up, similar to our military.
Seems like there are many immune health/infection marker tests available even from conventional labs- but I have yet to meet a Dr who fully understood these tests.
The fact that there are supplements marketed for immune health sound great, but then I read you shouldn't do that if autoimmune antibodies are already going on in you. Confusing.
