Can Serrapeptase cause a herx? I used to take this when I did the Cowden protocol and noticed nothing from it. I am again taking it but this time I am taking abx also. I think it is causing tachycardia (which is one of my biggest herx symptoms). Anyone else experience this?

I would think it could cause a herx, as it's breaking up the lyme biofilms.
I haven't noticed a herx from it...but I don't have clear 'patterns' so it isn't saying much.

I didn't have tachycardia as this isn't one of my symptoms but I do herx from serrapeptase and a lot of the other proteolytic enzymes.

and did your herxing from it start like 10 minutes after taking it?

I'm usually a very fast herxer, so yeah, between 10-30 minutes after taking these enzymes and antimicrobials I get flare-ups.
I'm sure you already are, but be careful, maybe don't dose as often? at least until the responses seem to stabilize. Just a thought.

ha...tks! I'm barely taking anything....ONE serrapeptase (nutramedix), sometimes I also take one nattokinase. Plus I am taking zithro but only one (250 mg?) pill every other day, sometimes every 3rd day (I just started on this a couple of weeks ago). I was supposed to be taking one, twice a day,but there is no way I can do that. I have a full time job and cannot afford to lose it...I suffer through every second I am at work though.

Isn't the Nattokinase doing the same thing (dissolving biofilms?) If so, then you've got a double whammy going on those days.

Hello Cheryl,
Just now reading this post about
Serrapeptase. I also had a severe herx 3 days after starting on Serrapeptase (one capsule 24.5mg/day). At the time I was taking Samento and Banderol drops as well, so this could have been overkill. My notes indicate that I had severe head pain, prickly skin and balance issues. I stopped after this since I couldn't function well at work this way.
I also have heart palpitations/flutters/chest pain but that started a few months before the Serrapeptase.
I'm thinking of starting back on it now - it's been 2 years since I tried it. My thought being that the herx reaction meant that it was doing its job?
Wondering if you've continued to take it, and if you have any comments as to its effect.
Thanks!

I am not currently using this.....
Basically everything causes me to herx. ANd I never get any better no matter what I take or don't take. I feel best when I take as little as possible, bu i am clearly still sick

Thanks for your reply, Cherylfelice. I'm sorry that you're still feeling sick. It's so hard to know what's working, what's not or what triggers one reaction or another. Hopefully the knowledgeable moderators will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that herxing is good sign with Lyme in that it means that bacteria are dying off as a result of what you're taking.
The only thing that has worked long-term for me has been the Des Bio homeopathic drops that are designed to build up your immunity from the Lyme bacteria. I've been taking the Borrellia/Babesia drops for well over a year now and doing well on them. They were recommended by my LLMD and also by an EDS technician.
Still, I know the Lyme is laying low because it manifests itself in different ways. The heart palpitations, the Hashimoto's are results of that but are not debilitating. Now and then I'll have one of those "Lymey" days as I call them - when you feel lousy and you know it's Lyme-related but a regular doc wouldn't understand. Detoxing helps when that happens.
A lot of your response to treatment depends on how long you went undiagnosed. Are you seeing an LLMD?
