Paralyzed by Lyme

Okay, so I know this is obviously a Lyme disease forum but...are you sure it's lyme? You said she got an ALS diagnosis, and from what i know there is no treatment for that. But you said she definitely has Lyme, Bartonella, etc. How do you know she's definitely has these?

I've only heard of one or two stories of people being paralyzed or having severe dysfunction like how you are describing from Lyme (the story i say was of a guy and it was on the news). But what you're describing, having to use feeding tube, and on oxygen machine, sounds very abnormal. Yes she might have lyme but she might have something else that's more severe.

Since being on Lyme treatment has she been improving or getting worse(herxing)? If there has been no change in symptoms and its been a few months, you should look into other things.

Why are you questioning the diagnosis?
Other things? like what?

It can take longer than a few months...

The thing is, there have been a lot of people with an ALS diagnosis that were actually dealing with Lyme - and that doesn't take into consideration that the OP's sister tested POSITIVE for several tick-borne infections. So there's little doubt that treatment for those infections will lower symptoms, if not "cure" the ALS.

Artaseret - Those improvements are great. You all must be very happy with the progress she is making.

Hi everyone...
I wish I could upload a video. My sister is working so hard and last week, she was able not only to 'march' in her chair, she could pedal her exerciser! Slowly and backwards but we'll take it!
The face palsy is now barely noticeable, and she can move several fingers and toes as well as twist her arms and wrists. We are so encouraged.
She is off all antibiotics and looks much better. Think they did their job and were just poison for her at this point. We're using vitamins (C, A, D3 with K, B complex) supplements (probiotics, cranberry) and some detox herbals and so far so good.
Just wanted to update and express my gratitude for your support and encouragement and return the hope to all who are struggling with this disease.

Imo for her to keep inproving .she may need herbs ,rife or bvt(all) ....lyme takes many years to treat effectively...i hope she holds on to the gains she has made

Keep up that hard work, it's paying off! Remember - baby steps!!!

Just remember that because she has Lyme, this can stop her body from producing enough antibodies to get positive tests on the infections she has. Even if using PCR testing, it can't pick up low levels of bacteria in the blood, and yet even low levels of bacteria can cause a quite a serious infection.

Hello all...
Got pretty busy around here but Sis seems to be at a plateau for the moment. There are a few new tiny movements in her fingers and toes (yay!) but no major leaps for now. I think her body needs to rest and recuperate every step of the way. We continue her daily exercises and the good news is she hasn't lost any of the gains made. We remain encouraged.
The mucus is still awful and with allergy season, whew! This disease is so cruel. My heart is wth all who suffer.
Mpost ... my sis kept a timeline of all her progress and mis-diagnoses until she could no longer write and we do have the ALS papers as well. I think she'll be doing some writing once she has recovered to share her story. "Don't give up!" has been our motto indeed.
We have found some new herbs and supplements, some of which she cannot take until the PICC line is removed... we are waiting on that until the next set of tests comes back.
