Interesting theory on chronic illness

This guy has a very interesting theory on why we are sick. It makes perfect sense of my situation. The graph in the link below illustrates the change of events that occur prior to getting ME/CFS, etc.

1) start with a person who has predisposing factors - (me: methylation issues)
2) add acute psychological stress (me: ongoing marriage issues/forced to move/horrible recovery when blew out my knee)
3) add an exposure to a virus/bacteria (me:mold/lyme & co) which leads to.....
4) brain dysfunction....which leads to
5) constant sympathetic nervous arousal (me: horrible anxiety).... which leads to
6) creates oxidative stress...which leads to
7) muscle pain, sleep disorders, IBS, muscle exertion issues, and a bunch of secondary illness that we are discussing like adrenal exhaustion, allergies, brain inflammation, mitochondrial disfunction.

Unfortunately, somehow this trains the brain to be extra sensitive to future exposures. Not sure what his program entails, just thought this was very insightful!!! I'm still struggling with an over active vagus nerve (I vibrate all night) and spelling issues but I completed an 11 mile bike ride through the hill country with (3) 12% grade hills and no fallout the next day. Interesting information that I sure can relate to!

First of all, congratulations on that bike ride! I hope those improvements continue!!

But, I don't agree with this premise from the article. While it may hold true for some, for others not so much. I was 7 years old when I started having serious health issues. At that point in my life, I was very happy (when I wasn't sick of course). When I wasn't in school, I was riding horses, going fishing and chasing grasshoppers with either my Dad (who I adored) or my brother. No psychological stress in my life at that point. That didn't come until later, a long time after symptoms started.

Another thought to check into is about the nerve issues. I still get them (mildly to moderately) every time I herx even a little bit, like last night (), but I used to get them so bad that I honestly thought we were having earthquakes. I grew up in earthquake country, so it was not a far stretch in my mind. The thing was, the only one that was having an earthquake was me!

Anyway, I had started using Avena sativa (oats in the milky stage) for anxiety related stuff, and have since discovered that it has also helped me with nerve pain and that 'vibration' feeling as well. Something that people can try if they are inclined to.

But there are so many people who test positive for lyme and are NOT sick. That is why I think there are underlying factors like this author states. Why does my husband test positive with not one symptom? He travels all over the country and feels good, great energy. I know he COULD get sick yet, but he tested positive over a year ago.

I do get what you're all saying though, maybe true for some but not others. For me, it seems to follow the pattern. Possible bartonella when I was a child (underlying), infected with lyme (minimal symptoms), series of stressful events, bam - sick, neuro symptoms. I do feel like what my body needs is a "reset" button. That I don't necessarily have a high load of bacteria but more of a dysfunction.

Fact: many people in the timber industry in the North Central US (logging/paper) are tested for lyme by their employer. Some who are BB (lyme) positive have ZERO symptoms.

What I dont get is their immune sys fends off enough that they dont feel sick, yet the BB bacteria is still there and shows up on the cheap basic lyme test, sometimes repeatedly.

CDC loves these people.

I've met people (outdoors people) with symptoms who claim 4-6 months later after treatment they are 100% better. I drilled them with questions, seems like they were honest.

So YES there are reasons some get sicker. But no single reason for all.

I've read/heard we all have cancer, but it doesnt activate in everyone. Its known that "out side of body" causes of inflammation can set it off. Chemicals inflame body tissues, therefore cancer can get activated. IN SOME PEOPLE.

All health care is guess work until repeatedly proven.

After reading the link, the info in the link is not his "discovery", its just repackaged current knowledge and he claims to treat it. Realy doesnt look like hes claiming any new discovery. This really looks like functional medicine theory of whole body dysfunction. Its not necessarily a snake oil theory. Nothing I'd disagree with- its very complex and vague at the same time. Most of us have some form of whole body dysfunction at one time with lyme -some similarities with CFS....However, even some CFS is though to be triggered from EBV. And I dont see any infections listed in this link.there can be many........

So one third are not 100% recovered, similar stats to long term lymies after they tried many things.

If his treatment is somewhat multi stepped its not much different than what many have done here If its several bottles of only a few supplements, than his treatment is prob "snake oil", but not the theory, which is not his theory at all, its been around a long time in functional medicine. Nothing realy new, just presented all together and packaged to look new. Good marketing LOL.

Detoxing, , gut support, adrenal support, minimizing stress and treating the infection- thats functional medicine for treating whole body dysfunctional illnesses. Its helps, but doesnt always cure. .Thats also the same lines of treatment most LLMDs will provide in treating lyme related symptoms/issues, in addition to ABX.

That's just it - "so many unknowns" - without extensive and open and HONEST research, we will never know! GRRRRR!!! That's one of the main reasons I get so mad about this controversy!! The only ones being hurt are people!! While those "in power" sit comfortably, denying research and treatments.

I agree that while it may not explain every case, I question why my brother or parents don't have any methylation issues even though we all have the same genes but then....they were never stricken with Lyme Disease. Back in 2007, I was diagnosed with Pernicious anemia right around the time I started having severe marriage problems. I could very well have had lyme for years at that point but was asymptomatic. I read the other day on the Toxin Mold Facebook group that this girl thought her Lyme destroyed her mast cells and created the B-12 deficiency and I'm wondering if that was the order of events for me as well. I just thought it was interesting his time line spelling out how things go from good to bad and it seemed to point to a lot of issues that we all struggle with.

I'm studying intensely these days with my Conscious Transformation group and there is a very clear link between stress of any kind and chronic illness. People who say they aren't stressed are actually probably super stressed but don't even know it because their thought patterns just feel normal because that is all they've known.

k07 - Agree. The constant EMF exposure can't help. It's almost impossible not to be stressed in this electronic age. Many kids are under stress only they don't have the traditional outlets for expressing it or getting help the way adults do. I was talking yesterday to this 13 year old who said she felt like a freak because she didn't want to bother with make up and all her friends spend hours putting on make up. She was all stressed out about that. The body wasn't designed to stay in stress mode....

For now, if his theory is there is some negative feedback loop in the brain where you can't turn off the response to pain and nerve reaction, then maybe meditating on that will help. I'm going to meditate and try to tell my body to stop vibrating that there is nothing to fear anymore. I'll let you know how it goes.

I agree about the gut. I'm on my 2nd round of the 500k nystatin protocol (9pills a day) so I'm in my 5th month. I decided to do another round because I still start to vibrate 30 minutes after my dose so I think there Candida deep in my gut and there is some sort of quorum sensing that the Candida use the nervous system somehow - like maybe they are sensing impending death and sending an SOS? IDK. Just a hunch. Either that, or its just cytokine damage to the nerves. Can a medicine that is only contained in the gut somehow effect the nerves. It has to be pathogen communication or something? Thoughts?

Dont get introversion confused with shyness, although some can be both. Its about energy, or how one gets it. Introverts expel energy being around large groups or difficult people, and gain energy with less people and sometimes more intellectual thinking patterns. . Extroverts are the opposite. Of course some people are a combo of both.

One symptom of candida is anxiety of all forms, you might say it amplifies anziety. Less sleep, tremors, general anxiety..
