I finally ordered some - Great Lakes Gelatin - Collagen Hydrolysate.
First - I want to get this fear out of the way. Should I be concerned with the Mad Cow disease?
I have read that they get their collagen from younger cows...and it's just the older cows that have it?
You don't hear about it much anymore. What are your thoughts?
Dosing:
Can I just stir it into a glass of water and down the hatch?
Does heat affect it?
What is the taste?
And finally - the most important question: how long will it take for my skin, and hair to be beautiful again?![tongue](/community/emoticons/tongue.gif)
Hi, Girlie:
I've consumed a few containers of Collagen Hydrolysate from Great Lakes Gelatin and have had no issues.
The question about
Mad Cow Disease is a logical and valid one. Here is some information that may be helpful:
Can Gelatin Cause Mad Cow Disease?/www.drweil.com/diet-nutrition/food-safety/can-gelatin-cause-mad-cow-diseaseBSE Is Not A Concern In Bovine Gelatin/Collagen Productsgreatlakesgelatin.com/storefront/product-info/faqs/bse-free.htmlAs for dosing and consumption, I'm a minimalist. I would stir two tablespoons of collagen into a mug of warm water and toss it down the hatch. I did this twice daily: once in the morning and once in the evening. It's allegedly cold water soluble, but I've not found that to be the case.
Regarding the taste, I found it to be mild. I'm not sure how I would describe it, but I did not find it unpleasant. Many people use it in other products - including marshmallows and jello.
Thinking back, when I was growing up, we ate Jell-O a fair amount. Maybe there was something to that. Back then, I feel like even processed foods had fewer ingredients that were more easily recognizable. That was before 'sugar-free,' 'low-fat,' and 'low-calorie' bandwagons.
Anyway, here are some other resources to consider:
