i was wondering if fleas can carry lyme....i never found a rash or bulls eye on me..but a few years b4 i was tested positive for lyme i was bitten by fleas like crazy on my legs and would itch and rash up. My ex bf had 3 cats and one of them was infested with fleas and they couldnt get rid of them and i was the only one in the house that was getting bitten. this went on for 2 years. so finaly his mother decides to do something about it since every year for 2 years i would get bitten and i was complaining about it.....well anyways since that time i have always had joint pain .

so just curiouse if i have had lyme longer than i thought and if it was from being infested by nasty fleas....

I just got Dr. Jernigan's book on lyme and he believes fleas - actually any biting insect - can transmit the bacteria. It has not been proven, though.

Jennie, 'They', the Drs, will tell you that you cannot get Lyme from fleas. But I sure can't figure out any logical explanation for that, and many on this board believe that you can. Surely they (fleas) feed upon many of the same Lyme carrier critters. And I would suppose it would depend on if fleas actually exchange monsters w/ us for blood. And they must --- hence, the Black Plague.

So go figure.....

i was wondering the same thing..if a tick can get bacteria cant a flea...and wouldnt a flea give that to a human...they both suck on your blood. i wish i knew if it was from thoses nasty fleas or from a tick. i didnt get full lyme syptoms till 2 half years ago when i found one on my clothes and tehn 2 weeks latter got the flu and then 4 months later was tested positive for lyme ....

Many Lyme researchers & LLMD's believe Lyme can be transmitted by fleas, and possibly also other biting insects (such as spiders, mites, mosquitos, flies, etc.).

yep.. i hear same from my doctor as Razzle. this is not just tics. and these tics carry deadly parasites too.

Yes, of course fleas can transmit lyme bacteria.  I always said that ticks get too much credit!

The "host" of most lyme bacteria is the White Footed Mouse, yeah, they are the real culprit.  They live most everywhere, in the U.S., Canada, Europe, etc.   Any blood sucking bug that feeds on these mice will then carry lyme bacteria.   I believe I read that the first identified rodent that carried lyme bacteria was found in 1890 in Germany..    I think lyme has been around forever but no one knew what it was or what to call it.

I'm 99% sure I got Lyme from fleas. I have what I call a very mild case of Lyme, compared to other people's experiences I have read about. It all started 7 years ago, bit by fleas and soon after I started getting tired and had light muscle twitches. The doc said my vitamin b1 and d was low. I supplemented with vitamins and felt pretty good for 5 years. Twitching continued but didn't progress. Finally I crashed with the flu and symptoms got bad. Took Doxy and supplemented with herbs. So far I feel pretty good. Everything symptom I had has been reversed except ear pressure and head pressure, which only started after the crash. I tried something new today, and crushed some aspirin and swallowed it. The head pressure went away in minutes and subsided for the whole day. I finally feel normal again! I'm going to see the doc and explain everything to him.

Hi ConqueringLyme - welcome!

It sounds like your immune system was keeping your symptoms in check until you got the flu and crashed.

If I were you - I would continue to treat until all your symptoms are gone.
You should consider seeing a LLMD and look into coinfections - Bartonella and Babesia - lyme rarely travels alone.

If the aspirin is helping, that means you are likely dealing with inflammation, so anti-inflammatories would be better than aspirin use most likely.

Our "modern" medical system tends to look at one methodology of every illness and ignore any other options. Ticks provide the optimal life cycle support for Borrelia. Guess what - Borrelia can use non optimal routes of infection. Bartonella can be carried by ticks and fleas, more than one species of tick can carry Borrelia & co. Borrelia is an opportunistic pathogen that has been around for millions of years and knows multiple paths of infection.
