Hey Everybody

I was just curious if there is a difference between a flare and a herx.

Here's what's currently going on:

Was on Ceftin for 7 days 500mgs 2x per day, taken off Ceftin and put on Doxy 300mgs per day but only for 4 days because I got a surprise call to see a LLMD due to a cancellation. LLMD put me back on Ceftin because of the photo sensitivity of Doxy (its summer and I'm outside a lot) and my symptoms have always been more neuro releated, plus the Doxy just seemed to make my insides crazy even with Probiotics. Anyway, now on Day 5 of Ceftin again and I've noticed 1-2 hours of these episodes of nervousness, joint aches and fatigue.

Could this be some type of herx, reaction to abx or a flare?

One more question, finally got some Alka Selzer Gold, when is the best time to take this and should it be taken outside of when I take my ax?

yes I believe there is a difference.
A herx is when the die off of bacteria from abx/herbals etc cause an increase in symptoms or new ones appear.

I would think you are herxing since you restarted the ceftin.

I dont know about alka seltzer gold, I haven't used it, hopefully another member will post about this.

I would increase your other detoxing, Epsom baths, dry brushing, lemon water, and I had success using activated charcoal when I was herxing.

I usually take the alka seltzer gold and glutathione right after I do my IV rocephrin to head off any herxing. I have some bad ones. My llmd says I can take alka seltzer gold and 2000mg of glutathione up to 3 times a day.

As Jo said, there is a difference technically, but you may not be able to tell by the way you feel.

You are in the time period where typically a herx after switching abx would occur, so I would encourage you to assume it's a herx.

You can use the Alka Seltzer Gold I believe 2 hours after taking your abx or probiotics. I'm sure others will be along soon that have used it and can give you better 'instructions' though.

I also agree with Jo on increasing the other types of detoxing as well. You need to have as many of the detox pathways working as best as they can to keep the herxing down.

My guess is that it is a herx. Sorry I can't answer the question about the alka seltzer gold. I think goshawk's prompt to up the detox is spot on.
