At my appointment today I learned how careful lyme drs have to be in Florida. The poor Drs are so careful of any thing that has to be reported to the insurance companies for Iv work. This Dr is a really good person also and you can tell that the office has to have every letter dotted so they don't have someone at their doors. This dr is one of the smartest I have met in Lyme. My previous Dr in Tampa was pretty much ran out of the business because of Management threatening to in ways shut him individually down. He was one of the compassionate drs I have met. There was a clinic in Florida shut down and re
opened under the agreement not to treat Lyme. This needs to. BE stopped we are all suffering and this is wrong. What can we do? Seriously what can we do?

I don't know if this list is current. I just bookmarked it because I needed to know if my state protected lyme doctors. I am a lucky one.
I bet they would know how to "get involved."

A reference was made to this article in another thread. I felt like this article was an attack on llmds. Cites two or three examples of things gone wrong, what about
all the docs that let all of us down? I can state three examples from my case alone starting with the intial doc visit that said i didnt have lymes even though i had the classic EM because there was no lymes in my area. Completely untrue and 10 months later after many problems and tests finally tested for lymes and it was positive. My area is now considered a lyme hotspot. I'm on my 8th doc in this ordeal, a llmd finally. The infectious disease community is clueless and apparently so is the Washington post. If they would help Lyme patients maybe we wouldn't be forced to try all of these alternative treatments. But when they say you are positive for lymes and your 4 weeks of abx just make you worse and they bail on you what are you supposed to do? None of us want to be sick, I wish 4 weeks of abx did the trick. I want to be back at work supporting my family and living a life not laying in bed hurting all the time. They don't want to help us and don't want us to seek help????

That's pretty much it - they want us to quietly fade into the background - which is why we should do anything but that!
We need to make waves! We need to be active in helping to bring awareness and acceptance of these infections, as they will be coming soon to those that don't believe! There are many organizations out there that are doing things to change the way Lyme is seen and treated. I encourage everyone to find a way to help out that fits with their life/lifestyle. Otherwise, nothing will change.
I spent 37 years being shuffled from one doc to the next. I literally have lost count of how many doctors I've seen during that time - then I finally got the diagnosis of tick-borne infections and treated for them, and I re-gained my health (then got reinfected), so there was no doubt that it's these infections that plague me - even though I was infected in Central Calif. in 1970, years before Lyme was 'discovered' on the East Coast in the 1980's. But, nothing has changed since that time either.
