Enlarged Tongue, Swollen Lymph Nodes Under Jaw, Sore Throat

Will these symptoms ever go away?!?!?!?! I'm losing my mind!! I was just diagnosed two and a half weeks ago. Been on doxycycline since then. Seeing Funtional med Dr who specializes in Lyme next week to begin treatment. But someone please tell me they've had the extreme sore Throat issues as well as Swollen/enlarged tongue issues and they did get better!!??? PLEASE!!!! I've been dealing with enlarged lymph nodes under jaw, extreme sore Throat, enlarged tongue for over three months!! I'm going crazy!!!

Yes, those symptoms should go away with proper treatment.
So, you have had symptoms for three months before starting treatment?


May I ask you what dosage of doxycycline you are on? It should be 200 mg twice daily....and hopefully your Dr. will be adding a second antibiotic to it soon.
While monotherapy is used with an acute case of lyme...when it's gone on for more than a few days or weeks...then the antibiotics are usually in tandem - so two or more at once are taken.

I had a swollen, painful lymph node (clavicle -left side) - but didn't even know it until I finally saw a LLND and said 'what is this?' and he told me.

Mine resolved with treatment - I believe it was lyme/bartonella treatment - approximately 15 months after starting treatment.

I have had throat issues, but not a sore throat - but a sensation of a lump in my throat...and also some phlegm that plagued me for many months.

How is your detoxing?

i had i a submandibular node swollen, now it is almost gone. i freaked out and thought only of bad things. also had bad sore throat for months.

there are multiple pathogens that can cause it and nobody can tell u exactly why
- lyme
- ebv reactivated
- bartonella
-all of the above

but do an ultrasound of the throat soft tissues just to be more on the safe side.

i did 2, in 2nd the nodes were smaller than first, and they always had a "benign" ovoidal form.

red root helps a lot with draining them and/or mask some of the discomfort.

Weird. I have that right now. One side of my tongue and jaw is totally swollen. I can't talk for very long. I'm not sure if mine is from lyme, or just an infection. I think my retainer may have been cut into my tongue but the infection seems to be spreading across my mouth. Strange, because I'm on so many abx, I'm surprised I'd get an infection at all.

Welcome and hang in There! As everyone said, it WILL get better. Hang in there and keep doing what you have to do.

If you're taking doxy, make sure you're also taking biofilm busters like serraptese and grapefruit seed extract. Doxy makes the spirochetes hide and form biofilms.

Caps or pills, but why are you going to be taking it? Do you have yeast/fungal issues?

Grapefruit seed extract can deplete normal flora (healthy “good” bacteria) in the gut when taken long-term. If you plan to take GSE for 3 days or more, it’s important to consume a probiotic supplement two hours before taking your GSE dose.

You can take the GSE with or without meals.

To me, if you are taking antibiotics this is going to mess with the flora of your gut. So why add one other thing that depletes the flora?

Peteza, I have realized that from stuff I have read on here. I see Lyme Dr Wednesday for first appointment so hopefully he will get me going on better meds.

So I have figured out why the sore Throat became so intense before I knew I had Lyme.. I was given a very high does of prednisone bc ER drs I had seen said I had pharyngitis and then laryngitis and it had been a month and sore Throat wouldn't go away.

So now I'm terrified this has destroyed my lymph nodes under jaw bc they just seem to swell up as the days goes on. My tongue stays scalloped bc it's enlarged. I'm so worried the steroids did permanent damage!!! Will my Throat/tongue/lymph nodes ever be the same?? Please tell me someone knows something good to tell me!!

When I was 13 I had a swollen lymph node over my collar bone, a little later something that was diagnosed as EBV, and in my late teens/early twenties was getting sore throats about every six weeks for years. Didn't stop until I got my tonsils removed (for the second time!) at 23. Not sure I would recommend that for anyone else, especially if they are being treated for Lyme, but they had never heard of it then.

But it does make me wonder if I had Lyme and/or Bartonella way back then, especially since my sister thinks she got her chronic Lyme in childhood.

Good luck with your treatment, and I think lymph clearing herbs and detox are both good ideas in addition to whatever else you're doing.
