I have been treated by Dr. Fry since 2009 for the protozoan PR that had never been discovered before his lab isolated it. Don't labs cross check their DNA match on a periodic basis to make sure there are no contaminations or errors due to pleomorphism?
Now I am confused that there is a 99% DNA match with a known plant fungus. When I first saw him, he showed me my Fry Lab blood smear that read " Mycoplasma / Bartonella " but, he told me the little cocci attached to my RBCs were most likely the Protomyxzoa. Years later, he showed me another blood smear of mine with biofilm and cysts. He explained that the Protomyxzoa had morphed into cyst form. Now this protozoan has 99% of its DNA matched to a known plant "root" fungus. At this point, has Dr. Fry had an outside lab recheck any of this?
Now that he has retired, I will find it impossible to convince my new doctor that I should also be given oral anti-fungals.....especially since I was just diagnosed with borrelia, bartonella and mycoplasma by DNA Connections testing ordered by this new doctor.
I showed Dr. Fry a huge bulls eye rash on my flank in "11, for which he prescribed Valtrex....he said my Western Blot from "09 was negative.
Any advice would be helpful....I appreciate the input. Thanks.
I mentioned in an earlier post: I saw Dr Fry for many years, he is the one who first put me on the right track of chronic infections and got me going on treatments. So I have a lot of kindness in my heart for him and respect and I do think he's helped a lot of patients. The problem is he had blinders on when it comes to lyme and some of the other coinfections because he was hyper-focused on his particular bugs. He was quite obstinate in pushing patients away from lyme even though he probably got a lot of lyme/coinfections patients in his practice and inadvertently treated (at least partially) their lyme/coinfections by using multiple broad spectrum abx combos to treat for his bugs.
Of course there might be something to those bugs he's discovered, I have no doubt there are a variety of occult chronic infections driving disease out there (and I bet often times working synergistically with the more classic lyme/coinfections issues). I love the fact that Fry is researching and trying to push the envelope on that, but his level of certainty that "his infections" were the primary drivers of disease was too high in my opinion (given current evidence), it could in fact be true but I think there needs to be much more evidence to establish causality of nature and degree of symptoms caused by his particular bugs. I think his excitement over his discoveries led him to put too much emphasis on the absolute importance and primacy of his infections which is possible that they are important but this is not proven not by a long shot. What bothers me is this often seemed to come at the cost of disregarding the more proven and prevalent infections (especially the 3 B's, bartonella, borrelia, babesia) that might be lurking in his patients, disregarding their importance and significance in causing long term disease. I certainly think there could be synergy with many of these various infections (known and occult), and of course there is much left to untangle so again I'm glad Fry is researching, but his treatment methodology was too skewed towards home team bugs imo ;)
I still think he was a good doctor and very compassionate in my case (and I think he really cared about
his patients and their sufferings and marginalization by the medical community), he thinks outside the box, he is ballpark right with his views on chronic infections and human illness, and I am deeply grateful for his help. So I feel a bit bad leveling this critique because I do respect him, like him, want him to succeed, respect his intelligence and dedication, but at the same time these are my honest views so I share them.
Are there any herbal anti-fungal medicines you could take? I think lauricidin (monolaurin) has some antifungal properties. Maybe could look into Buhner's writings he will likely have some suggestions. Have you talked to your new doctor about
your Fry results, and have you asked them about
your concerns over fungal infection, your Fry dx, and potential use of antifungals? If you start treating for the 3 B's that might lead to some improvements over time and often times docs that adequately treat these diseases understand that fungus can be part of picture or at least needs to be hedged against. My doc has me on nystatin and monolaurin to hedge against candida and things of that nature from the abx therapies, it's pretty common use for patients getting lyme/coinfections treatments. I also recently started taking grapefruit seed extract and I think this also has antifungal properties. I would check with your doc before taking some of these things though, especially grapefruit seed extract as this can change how other meds are metabolized in the body.
This may have already been posted but my friend Jo sent me this a little while back, Fry's latest study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/28411089/
