Soooo, for the last 4 years, I've been dealing with some pretty serious hormonal issues (thyroid, adrenal, estrogen, DHEA) and during the first 4 months of this lovely mess, I gained 40 lbs - roughly 10 lbs a month, even though I hadn't changed a single thing - not diet or activity levels. Since I wasn't exactly slim and trim before this - I was horrified at my weight gain and knew that it was not healthy.

Funny thing (well, sort of) is that previous to this, about 18 years ago, I was underweight by 30 lbs!!

Anyway, due to some office politics - and the fact that I wasn't making any progress and I was being blamed for not loosing weight (even though I completed extensive food journals and followed every thing I was asked to do), so I finally realized that seeing this doctor was doing my adrenals more harm than good (especially after the phone call I got from my doctor blaming ME for the way her receptionist and other clients were taking advantage of being able to order supplements without paying up front - with my memory, this is something I would NOT do).

So, for the last 3 years I've been on my own with my hormones - definitely NOT something I would recommend, and for the first 2 years I thought I may have been doing more harm that good, since nothing seemed to be changing!

BUT!!!!!!! - as of today, I have been able to get back into my old sizes of pants!!!! smilewinkgrin turn smilewinkgrin turn smilewinkgrin turn Woooooo HOOOOOOOO!!!! tongue

I'm not sure how much weight I've lost (I don't have a scale), but I do intend to find out!! LOL! Now I feel like I have a fighting chance to get back down to "my" right weight - where I feel GOOD at - but not so skinny that I have any issues. Been there, done that! It's painful!

I'm soooo excited!!!! scool smilewinkgrin

Congratulations Traveler!

Weight struggles are the worst and the fluctuations when having LD can be very radical. It's just now that I've gotten comfortable with all the weight that I've lost. But I've learned that health comes first, then aesthetics. Hopefully I'll be back on my regular weight soon and come celebrate too!

Good for you Trav. My weight has been going the other way. Got a few Sept wedding coming up, so at lunch today I took my good suit pants over to a local seamstress to have the waist taken out another 1 to 1.5".

Now I know where the extra pounds I'm carrying came from 8^( Everything in the world needs to balance out.

BTW: I don't have a scale either.

Congratulations! That's awesome! So happy for you !

Glad you got away from that doctor too! I totally agree that dealing w/ a negative doctor can have detrimental effects on hormonal health!!!!

I have been dealing w/ significant weight gain over the past 4 years, prior to that I was way underweight as well. I've also been trying to repair my adrenals, thyroid, & female hormones on my own, & over the past few months noticed some weight loss- still can't fit into my old pants yet tho!

Like you, I don't have a scale, but I'm curious to see what the scale says when I go see the doctor!

Losing control over our weight (gain or loss) is incredibly frustrating!!! Now that I've experienced both sides of it, I can say that I was scared when I lost too much weight, and very frustrated when I gained too much weight. Either way is not good, but as you said, Tickbite, balance and being healthy comes first!!!

Funny how many of us have "lost" our scale! LOL! I've been quite happy to not have one in the house - but hubby's first question (after the congratulations, of course) was "so we can get a scale again?" LOL!

I wish you luck, Casa!! It's not easy, but go slow and be just as patient as you can be - and you can vent here or to me!! Boy, do I understand!

As many others I too am going the other way. This thing really tries (and manages) to piss you off. How come people with a little extra on the belly puts on weight when slim people loose weight? It's so bizarre it almost make me laugh

That is wonderful news! I too struggle with the weight fluctuations. I start to go down, then it goes back up.

I was one who lost weight when lyme hit me...but it did come back on when I started treatment 14 months later.

I think that is testimony that it was from lyme. For 14 months I ate anything and everything...and couldn't gain the weight back.

Within 4 months of treatment, I started to gain the weight back.

LOL, Dacarte!! If I could, believe me, I'd be sharing with everyone that I could!!! Ha ha ha!!!

Thank you all, so very much! As I said, I have great sympathy for those that are underweight, as I once was as well. Boy, that was no fun.

But, to finally have some control over my weight (again eyes) is such a relief! I hate the way I feel whether I'm underweight or overweight!

And, I forgot - I have more good news!! I've had some more noticeable improvements in (wait for it - LOL) that overly strong ammonia smell to my urine! For those that are newer, I had such strong ammonia in my urine that it literally smelled like burning plastic, or like an electrical fire starting. It was horrid, and I hated using public restrooms!

It took me quite a while to figure out that it was too much ammonia in my urine, as no doctors that I had asked had ever heard of it before, but none seemed concerned with it either! I finally decided to start detoxing my entire urinary tract, carefully, but heavily....and it's working!!!

The last time I posted about this, I was only having that really strong burning plastic smell after I drank my detox tea and it was only the next time I had to use the bathroom.

Now, as of yesterday (so fingers crossed!) I have only a strong urine smell!!! Wooo hooooo!!!! Progress!

Congrats! Hope they fit well!
I gained 10 lbs in the first 3-4 months of Lyme, and have since lost 20 and counting. But it's been all uneven. Now my waist is two sizes smaller than my thighs and I cannot find any pants that fit all the right places!
Just went thrift shopping before my vacation, and since I'm walking everywhere, the weight melted off and my "new" pants are falling down again. Time to invest in skirts and leggings. The clothes pin method of gathering my pants is quite unattractive blush

Way to go Traveler!!!! I would get a good set of scales because they can be truly fascinating. Like you, I don't care about weight as much as I care about size, but your weight can be used as a tool at times. An example is last week, I took a supplement I got at a pharmaceutical convention. It's a elemental formula that binds and the name slips my mind. It has no taste and it gave me a pretty good herx. The next morning when I got on the scales, I weighed 1.5 lbs less than I should have weighed given my conditions. It bound something and took 1.5 lbs of water with it. I've seen similar water changes with 1mg of copper but it increased my weight. I added 3 lbs in 2 days from it. It's interesting to see the crazy things that can go on.

Thanks, GH! I still don't have a scale in my house! LOL! I knew that seeing what I weighed previously would have only frustrated me even further, and I'm not ready to see that on a regular basis again yet. Yes, I know how goofy that is, but I like to gain or loose my weight by the way I feel/look (I know what it feels/looks like to be at my proper weight).

I have had plenty of experience in using a scale to determine some things like you are explaining though. It is quite interesting.
