Hi guys,

I wrote an article about Babesia.

Hope it is helpful and useful. I've already had 3 patients on FB tell me they have continuing symptoms that they can link to Babesia thanks to this article. It would be wonderful if that means they can get treatment and a cure.

I have had such a hard time getting a positive babesia test. Haven't seen bluelyme around for awhile but curious what he thinks about microscopy - he's probably covered it but I don't remember.

I just got to see my Babesia under a microscope yesterday! It was so cool! (I'm beyond the point of freaking out about it - treatment has shown steady improvement, so I am just thrilled to have seen it with my own eyes and have the "proof" we so often crave!) My doctor did the blood smear himself, and the lab came back negative (for b microti, the lab wouldn't test duncani, so we'll do that later if need be)

Yes, it is crazy they only test 1-2 strains while in nature you could contract so many different ones...

It is a strange co-infection and treatment isn't really straight forward.

Hopefully people recover. When I hear someone who read my Babesia article pursuits treatment for it and starts getting better I get excited!

babsbunny not sure why you're bothering trying to get a positive for babs since you know you already have it? there are so many types of bacteria and strains trying to test for them is somewhat useless its better to go clinical.

I just had a quick question for you guys who have or have had Babesia. I had a positive test for Babs (and Lyme) in mid July, and since then have been on Atovaquone and Azithromycine (am in Europe) which I have to take for 5 months. I am 3 months in, and I felt much better within a few days of treatment, having some periods of feeling worse. For the last week I've been herxing terribly and just wondered how normal this is. My blood tests (blood count, renal and liver) still make for shocking readings. I just wondered if it was normal to be herxing so badly after 3 months of treatment?

The herxing can come and go throughout the treatment...until the bacteria load is gone...or at a very low amount.

What do you mean by shocking readings (blood tests?)


3 months isn't really very long for babs treatment. You could be looking at several more months...(even past the 5 months mark your Lyme Doc told you)

And. Azithromycin is hitting lyme and possibly other co-infections at the same time.
