I am extremely confused in researching Choline. I was about
to add some to my vitamin order and I came across this which states that people who eat meat and dairy have an unfavorable microbiome in the gut in which Choline intake will lead to production of TMAO, thereby increasing risks of prostate cancer and heart disease.
The following is both scary and fascinating research (well worth the 9minute investment in time):
Carnitine, Choline, Cancer, & Cholesterol: The TMAO Connection
Michael Greger M.D. FACLM April 26th, 2013 Volume 13
/nutritionfacts.org/video/carnitine-choline-cancer-and-cholesterol-the-tmao-connection/Is this total BS like the "Cholesterol is bad for you" BS or is there some validity to this because I consume meat and eggs and have a microbiome that is customized as a result of dietary habits?
I am totally fine with an I dont know answer over speculation as everyone cant know everything.
I ask because I am convinced that I may have created a perfect storm which caused my testicular cancer back in early 2014 as I was doing large amounts of L-Arganine daily as part of a ketogenic diet as well as using Androgel testosterone hormone replacement therapy which brought my T levels from 200 to 650.
There was 4 months of episodes of short lived sharp pain as a warning before developing lumps and much pain almost overnight. I almost always felt the pain after a warm shower which is when I applied the Androgel. This type of cancer is very rare at then age of 47.
I dont think either by itself can cause cancer but having a latent virus in the herpes family and carrying a fungal infection left untreated for a decade (only found out later on my own because I had dangerously ignorant doctors) combined with overriding my body's defensive hormone down regulation led to the development of cancer within less than 6 months of treatment.
I used to think it was due to keeping my cell phone in my front pocket which may have been a tipping point trigger at best but now I believe it was the aforementioned. Lesson learned, HRT can be deadly under certain conditions.
Therefore I feel I have a legitimate concern. I am definately not trying to throw a wrench into anyone's use of Choline.
