I have always been sensitive to sound. I was an August baby and my mom said she had to leave the fireworks display when she was pregnant with me. Lyme really exacerbates my sound sensitivity.

So for all my sound sensitive friends out there. What sound drive you up the wall and what sound, if any, is calming to you?

Right now, the sound of leaf blowers top my list of sounds driving me up the wall.

The sound of my 85lb dog sighing before he plops down next to me is my calming sound.

How about you?

I have sound sensitivity too. My worst is probably the sound of a loud TV, especially if it’s violence, like explosions or people shooting each other, screaming, etc. I don’t like so/called white noise either. Fans running and things humming or whirring bother me. The most relaxing sounds to me are the night sounds of owls and crickets outside my window. I also love rain falling but don’t get that much here in the desert.

I hear ya about the dog. My dogs tail thumping and my cat purring are high up on my good list.

Manzanita2 - yep. Action scenes do it to me , too. Fortunately, some whitenoise in the background can be okay. But, potato chip bags opening and closing really get an evil look from me.

Yes, I do and so does my daughter. She covers her ears during most loud sounds-- toilets flushing, loud tv, smoke alarms, vacuums etc.

I cant stand loud TV (also particularly violent shows), white noise, or stomping/pounding.

Countingstars - Wow. You can't do the white noise like Manzanita, either. Someone really needs to create an appropriate lyme white noise setting for us lymies.

I'm not sure it would help me. I can't stand background noise at all. Part of it is my brain, and part of it is my hearing. Sometimes I feel like my hearing is overly acute, and that's why loud noises bother me, but with background noise I feel like I can't hear well at all. I'm constantly asking people to speak louder and repeat themselves.
