I had gone to one of those sham Lyme clinic's this past summer (Envita in Scottsdale, AZ) and they treated my past EBV infection with Valtrex. After that I spoke with Dr. N btiefly on the phone and asked him why they would have treated a past infection, and was it warranted. His answer: no, not warranted to treat, even though titers are high. What Dr. N stated, is what I agree with. I'm a former medical lab scientist (now totally disabled with Lyme disease, Bartonella, and 4 species of toxic mold; all confirmed through testing), and yes my titers are high, but I believe that's because Lyme disease activated them. Seems simple enough to understand.

So now I'm with my 6th doctor and this new doctor said EBV is the ROOT CAUSE of all my problems. WHAT!?! Are you high, doctor? Lyme disease is the root cause. EBV is a past infection and as per my labs, is not an active infection! Yes, I had mononucleosis as a child, while also sick with strep throat and chicken pox. Yep! The Varicella Zoster (Herpes family) virus is there too.

Am I wrong? Is the renowned Dr. N wrong?

EBV Ab VCA IgM <36 (negative)
EBV Early Antigen Ab, IgG <9 (negative)
EBV Ab VCA, IgG = 410 (high positive)
EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG = 154 (high positive)

All of this signifies to me and Dr. N, but not my present or past doctors, that it's a past infection, that has been heightened by Lyme disease. It's not truly an issue, and I don't want to be treated for something I don't have an issue with.

I'm looking for evidence as to why EBV should be named as my ROOT CAUSE for all my illnesses and why it shouldn't be treated. I have an appointment on the 5th with this guy, and I can't justify more than half what he's diagnosed me with, because his diagnosis came from muscle testing (applied kinesiology), which is not scientific by any means. The problem? I'm on a private disability policy from an insurance company, and I need a doctor to attest that I'm very ill (which I am) so that I can keep getting the money I earned from paying into for almost 12 years. Everything in my scientific brain, says forget it. I can't compromise my integrity just to keep getting the money I'm owed, but how can I survive without that monthly income? I digressed here, but I would like an opinion on the EBV.

Lapis_29, well excuse me! So sorry I bothered you! I am asking for answers pertinent to this post so sorry if I got confused by your rules of how to post correctly! I have late stage Lyme disease and don't think clearly at all. I'm new at all this, and this forum is incredibly confusing. Thank you for making me feel as unwelcome as a doctor would. I hope you're thrilled with yourself.

Yes. All 6 are LLMDs...I have a hard time because I worked in the medical field as a medical lab scientist for almost 12 years, plus lost my mom to two egregious medical malpractices, so I'm a very difficult patient to say the least. I know too much. I just hired a private patient advocate to smooth things over in this area.

I was diagnosed with active EBV along with lyme by my llmd he said that there is not really any way to treat the EBV as antivirals were ineffectice and that by treating the Lyme the EBV would resolve its self.

I was sceptical but after just 8 weeks of treating the lyme I have just tested the EBV again and it is no longer active. He was surprised it resolved so quick and I guess I was lucky.

It just goes to prove that treat the Lyme the EBV will resolve with time.
