Curious about
people's reaction to Biaxin? I just started it on Wednesday and seem to be herxing already with significantly increased neural issues and some gut pain.

Mister Mike
I refer to Biaxin as my life raft. Although it has never gotten me to the finish line, it has stabilized me during some of my most challenging times. I can tell you that when I first started using it I felt as though I was Herxing most the time but it leveled off and the benefits eventually outweighed the flares. Most ABX will play havoc on your gut. I did find it harsh at times but typically just at the start up. Drink a lot of water and be sure to take probiotics away from the ABX. I hope this helps.

I have been taking Biaxin since July and have not had any negative effects. I did not have much in the way of herxing as I did when on Doxycycline. I agree with Elaina's "life raft" and "finish line" comments.

I was on Biaxin for a month. It gets higher blood levels than Zithromax and doesn't penetrate the tissues as well. Whatever is causing your issues is in your blood at higher concentrations. I treated with Zithromax first for months and then switched to Biaxin. Most of my critters were gone by the time Biaxin came around. It did taste like I had eaten a car door. I would guess the metallic taste came from released metals which may be causing some of your issues.
Eat at least 1 orange a day.

Thanks all! Much appreciated. I'm trying to put the final "nail in the coffin" for Q Fever, which is a pretty rare and nasty co-infection I have the pleasure of having (along with mycotoxin illness), and my doc is putting me on Biaxin to be combined with Rifampin for the Q. I had been on a Mino/Plaquenil combo with alternating Flagyl and Augmentin every two weeks for many months, and ultimately my body had enough of it but I made great progress on it and got my Q titers down to almost below the range of being infected. But they started rising again ever so slightly when I stopped everything for a break, so we don't want to take any chances by letting it increase unfettered again, hence the new protocol.

I had some kidney pain on it and the metal taste which is common side effect. I took it with plaquenil for maybe 6 weeks. I think it really helped clear up my IC symptoms (although did not help frequency). I had read before that the biaxin/plaq combo is good for IC.

Yeah I think I'm getting some kidney pain. No metallic taste yet. What is IC?

IC = Interstitial Cystitis
I took biaxin for awhile - funny taste in mouth - nothing else stands out - good or bad.

I did Biaxin too - in the summer as a doxy replacement. Had no issues with it.
The metal taste is from the pill itself touching the inside of your mouth.
The no metal taste trick: Have some water in your mouth already, tilt head back for Biaxin pill and swallow fast. No metal taste if it doesn't make oral contact.

Biaxin was easy to take and I made great strides with it as my lung was infected with something Morgellons related. I later switched to Azithro 3 months in but then wondered if this was a good move. I almost went back to Biaxin but circumstances had me ceasing treatment with abx as I could no longer tolerate the side effects of Azithro. No regrets on use or stopping when I did. It cleared.
The macrolides are notorious for killing beneficial bacteria as well, so have a good probiotic recovery strategy during and when done. Bravo would be the most expensive and juicing veggies without peeling, just lightly washing may be the cheapest and superior.
I made some beet and ginger kvass and fermented it 11 days. I am about
to try it for the first time today. (Ooh tangy but not bad, but if I dont return blame the kvass)

Thanks all. Much appreciated. Bumped it up the the full dose and sure enough got the metallic taste. Strange side-effect. Will try AM's trick to mitigate it.
Doc has me on VSL #3 450 billion probiotic to address the killing of good guy bacteria. CA - hope the kvass was successful!

Very good actually. Tastes like pickle juice when made with ginger. It had no visible mold growth either which is encouraging considering what I have gone through with battling indoor mold.
