Supplement brands - which can be trusted?

I know Stephen Buhner has recommendations for certain companies that he trusts. However, he mostly recommends tinctures. I do not want tinctures. They’re too hard to put together multiple times every day and a pain to carry with you if you need to. Also, so many of them taste horrible. I really prefer capsules.

I’ve been buying most of my herbs from Amazon from companies like Now and Doctor’s Best. But I recently read an article about how so many herb companies cannot be trusted to contain the substance you think you’re getting. So I’m worried. Can anyone recommend any brands of Buhner herbs that come in capsules?

Are you supposed to mix tinctures in water? I have just been squirting the dropper in my mouth and chasing it with some water.

Peteza - what is your thoughts on dry bulk powdered herbs? I prefer to mix the powder in water and gulp it down.

Has anyone used Samsara brand Lyme recovery formula? I have an order coming now.

PeteZa, thanks. If it was just now and again, I could manage it. But I have to be at work very early and I really don’t want to have to prepare and carry my morning and midday tinctures with me every day. I have a hard enough time just getting myself to work, lol. I fill my pill containers once a week and that works out great for me. I do have a couple of tinctures and some Beyond Balance drops but I end up missing them a lot of the time and end up taking them only in the evenings.

I don’t suppose you can mix tinctures a week ahead of time, can you?

PeteZa, how long do you think the drops can be in the bottle mixed together? If I could mix my tinctures up and get them ready the night before, that would be great. If I could mix up a week’s worth at a time, that would be even better. Also, should they be refrigerated? I’m never sure about that either so it’s another reason why I’ve been hesitant to use tinctures. I’d need to carry them around without refrigeration sometimes.

Thanks cakegirl! I didn’t realize they had capsules. From reading Buhner’s books it seems like everything he recommends is in tinctures. But I’ll check out those websites and see what I might be able to get in capsules.

One more thing I wonder about tinctures versus capsules; which is more cost effective? I have a hard time with it because I’m used to taking doses per mg so I don’t know how to translate that to drops and ratios etc. well enough to easily figure out how many doses a bottle of tincture will contain. It seems confusing to me sometimes. (I blame that on brain fog! 🙂)

Thanks PeteZa, I’m going to try it. And I’m so glad to know I don’t need to refrigerate them. I’ve been keeping the tinctures I do have in the frig. I hope that didn’t hurt anything.
