I’m using herbal protocol and think I have a sinus infection following a bad cold. I have sinus headache low grade fever. Not sure if I should call my pcp because I know they’ll put me on antibiotics and I’m scared they make me herx so badly.

Just wondering if anyone had been through the same thing and how the went about it.

Ive had sinusitis since ive had lyme im told its quite common

I had a sinus infection for about 12 years- 6 of which were before i officially got sick. I finally got rid of it less than a weeks ago.
For me it was histamines. Going to a low histamine diet and avoiding environmental triggers- though it hasnt cured my disease- got rid of the sinus problems. If i take a high histamine food, like lemon juice, it will return.

I do keep a sinus spray around just in case and it does work for if i get congested. I bought a bottle of Xlear and a bottle of colloidal silver and mixed them 50/50. It does good work on any sinus infections

Exactly the same thing back in December. Had a cold that wouldn't go away and made a turn for the worse with feeling like I had a low grade fever and feeling unusually tired and worse stuffy nose.

Ended up going to the ENT and taking Augmentin for 7 days. Didn't really feel like I was herxing much while taking it. After I stopped taking it, my joint, muscle, and foot pain and stiffness got much worse and I had reduced stamina and couldn't do much physically. Also started feeling like I was in a bad bartonella herx with skin symptoms, GI inflammation. It's been 3 months now and I still don't feel as well as I did before the Augmentin.

I did have noticeably improved head/brain after the Augmentin at the same time my body felt like it was taking a bartonella or Lyme beating for a while. After my body started feeling less pain, brain/psych symptoms slowly started coming back.

The same sort of thing happened to me a year ago when I took minocycline for 7 days, except it was worse. That experience led me to step out on my own and try to treat with herbs using Buhner's protocols, which I've been on since June.

I totally understand the hesitation to take an antibiotic for fear of herxes. I hesitated too but also considered that my immune system might not be strong enough to take out the sinus crap due to all the other chronic infections I've got. That said, the Augmentin had no noticeable effect on the sinus/cold stuff. It just seemed to run its course anyway.

I can't say I regret taking the Augmentin, though, as it seemed to reach some stuff in my brain. At least I'm hoping it gave me a slight leg up, even if I'm still herxing somewhat 3 months later.

Thanks for the honesty. That’s my fear ugh getting much worse. Back in Oct I was givin azith for infection and I had to stop because i herxed SO badly. Took a few weeks to get back to my so called normal now. Does anyone know if a sinus infection can clear itself?

It can if your immune system is strong enough. I've done it before. I used to get sinus infections every time I got a cold, usually once or twice a year. I remember one time having a pretty bad one. It took a few weeks, lots of OTC meds, and a netipot several times a day, but I got rid of it without an antibiotic. I was proud of myself at the time. Most of the time, though, I went for the abx as "insurance", hoping to knock it out faster. Still, there were only a few times out of the many that I took an abx where it had any noticeable affect on the sickness.

Now that I'm sick with chronic infections, it's hard to make those judgement calls. If it's not too bad and you feel confident treating without abx, see what happens. If you have a higher fever with chills, a lot of pain, Inability to breathe, eye pain or vision changes, blowing green/yellow stuff that won't thin out with Mucinex, etc. then get to a doctor. I personally know a guy who is legally blind from a sinus infection he had as a child. Truthfully, it's really hard to tell the difference between a bad cold and a bacterial sinus infection. An ENT is probably the best doctor to make that call, and a good one won't prescribe an abx unless they think you really need it. Mine doesn't always prescribe one. Doctors do take sinus infections seriously as they are close to the brain.

Try doing a nasal infusion

I have had success and great changes using a 10% Apple cider vinegar, 5% salt solution. You can add a pinch of clove or oil of oregano or olive leaf or colloidal silver or.

You might also think about getting tested for Marcons. I was told it's very common in lyme patients, especially in their sinuses. I had it and it was very annoying. In fact, it's probably still an issue. I took two rounds of nasal ozone and that helped some.

I was able to clear one sinus infection using a neti pot with salt water and Alkalol, an essential oil rinse. For another infection I took Augmentin and had no herx.
